Chapter 12

Don't Eat The Cookies: Part One

The cast took a bow. They were all clutching each other in disbelief. There was whooping all over the theatre cheering them on for another bow. Once the curtain closed, everyone rushed to get their party clothes on. Except Jack and Lucas, both still fuming from the punishment. They got to perform in the ensemble, but their understudies stole the open night from them, which made them both really pissed off.

"I can't believe this," Jack groaned, sweeping the stage once the audience was gone. Lucas was picking up rubbish in the house of the theatre, he couldn't believe that people could be so messy. The curtain was open so they didn't have to talk through the curtain.

Meanwhile, the rest of the cast were out smiling for photos and signing programmes. Afterwards they had the after-party which would go till about 2am. Even though they had a show the next day, they were allowed to sleep in. On Monday, the normal routine would be in place, with some exceptions for public promotions, interviews and very late nights.

Alice and Ryan were waiting for the rest of the cast to come out. Alice was wearing her skater dress with her black Doc Martens. While Ryan was wearing a band hoodie and black jeans, both of their styles suited them and their personalities perfectly. They were having a chat while looking over Alice's tumblr, it was a random conversation, but it was good for both of them to talk to each other. It's been ages since they did that.

By the time the rest of the cast had finished their run at stage door, Alice and Ryan were ready to get going. Alice wanted to see what a professional party like this would be like, while Ryan just wanted to start dancing to loud music.

Once the cast had arrived to the party location, they had a photo shoot for the entertainment magazines and for the Facebook page. The smell of a BBQ filled the venue.

"That's weird..." Alice said to herself. Dene was at the BBQ, waving a pair of tongs around in his good arm, smiling to himself. Earlier this year, Dene was in a commercial in which he would wave tongs around like a loon. Alice showed it to everyone one rehearsal, that was the day phones were banned in rehearsal rooms.

Hayley was talking to Ben. He got out a small package for her. "For me? You shouldn't have!" She said, inside the beautifully wrapped package was a few cookies.

"You always made some, so I thought it was your turn to have some made for you," Ben smiled.

Hayley hugged him, "you're amazing!" She said, tasting one, and she thought it tasted pretty good, but there was something else. Something she didn't really know. "Ben?" She asked, cautiously. "What else is in these?"

"Walnuts."

"Okay," Hayley worried.

"What's wrong?" Ben asked.

Hayley smiled weakly. This had happened before, "I'm having a mild reaction to them, I'll be fine in an hour, I'll be fine."

"Is she okay?!"

"Someone call an ambulance!" Clare said, watching over a collapsed Hayley. Her reaction was worse than expected, she wasn't responding to multiple pinches and nudges. "What's it from?!" She asked.

Ben guiltily hung his head, "it's from walnuts."

Using her past experience from a first aid course at school, Clare put Hayley on her side and checked her breathing. "She's breathing at least. But she needs medical treatment, now!" Clare said, staying by Hayley's side as Dene called triple-0.

It was a long ten minutes before the ambulance arrived. Clare (who had been by her side the whole time), Dene and Ben (who felt like it was his duty to go) went in with her. Everyone else was sent back to the hotel.

"Will she be okay?" One of the photographers from the party asked. He got the whole thing in camera and knew that this could be big news if it got out.

"We have no idea if she'll be okay or not," Carla said, "but we'll have to wait and see."

Heather and Alice were in shock. Being Hayley's closest friends, they were worried sick about her. No one really went up to their rooms when they got to the hotel. The whole cast just took up the couches in the lobby and sat silently for a while, no one really knowing what to do or say. Alice was sitting with Ryan, who hadn't left her side since the ambulance wheeled off to the hospital. He was there to help her get through it all.

Lucas and Jack walked into the hotel. They had finished cleaning the theatre, they were surprised to see the cast there. "Pfft. Shouldn't you all be having fun at the after party?" He mocked. No one said anything. The party didn't matter any more. All everyone was worried about was whether Hayley would be okay.

"What," Lucas laughed, "did someone die?" The boys laughed even harder at that comment.

Alice just ran off. She couldn't bear to think of Hayley dying. Ryan went to find her. No one else really knew what to do. Slowly, everyone looked at Lucas and Jack in disgust and went up to their rooms.
