Stay Out Of The Woods

Chapter 1

~January 15th, 2010~

I sat on the couch watching T.V with my best friend- Shane Cain. It was a typical Saturday for us, eating junk food, and watching T.V or movies. We weren't like the other teens our age- which went out to the mall, or to parties. We were two boring sixteen year old kids.

Shane had been here since this morning, when he decided to be my wake up call. He ran into my room jumping on to my bed, and screamed into my ear to wake up.

I Cassie Shay was not happy. I was the type of person who hated mornings; there was nothing good about them. I was more of a night owl- NOT a morning glory.

Shane lived about a football field away from me. Between our houses was the woods, and we weren't allowed to go back in there. It was behind our houses as well. Only our families had a large fence splitting the woods and our houses apart.

I stretched out my legs and leaned back in the already reclined seat and yawned. Shane's feet lay in my lap. My hair fell on to my face, and I pushed back the long lock of wavy brown hair.

"Geez Cas. Are you that tired?" Shane asked.

I looked over into Shane's large deep green eyes. A large smile was engraved on his face, showing off his straight white teeth. Shane had just gotten his braces off about three months ago, and was very proud of his beautiful smile.

"Gee, I don't know why I am so tired Shane. Maybe because my wakeup call this morning was quite early... Jerk." I snapped.

Shane laughed, and stretched and yawned himself. I could help but to look at my best friend's body. Shane didn't believe in working out. He ate a lot of junk food, and did about five different sports. Football, Baseball, Soccer, Track, and Basketball. He was tall and lanky- he had defined muscles but they weren't like BAM, but they were defiantly there.

"Yawning is contagious." I yawned again.

Shane nodded, and turned his focus back to the T.V screen. We were watching a stupid old horror movie with lame affects.

I personally hated horror movies- not because I was scared or anything; but because usually the main star of the movie, instead of running just begs for the killer or whatever is trying to kill them, to spare there life. When instead they could be running- but of course they'll fall about fifty times when they do run.

I watched as the girl in the corner just sat there, with tears streaming down her face with her hands above her head as the killer approached her.

"Please don't kill me." She begged.

"You could be running right now... Or fighting back." I mumbled.

Shane snickered and nodded. "You're absolutely right." He laughed.

 "I hate horror movies."

"I know you do." Shane replied getting up off the couch.

"Then why are we watching it if you know I hate them?"

"Just for fun. Come on, let’s go play football before it gets to dark out." Shane said pulling me up off the couch.

 "Noooooooooooo." I groaned.

"Come on. We are going to get fat if we keep just watching movies and eating."

 "Will not." I sniffed.

Shane rolled his eyes, and grabbed my hand and led me outside.

I opened the front door, and the cold January air hit me like a ton of bricks. "Holy crap! It's freezing!" I yelped.

"Don't be a wimp. Go." Shane said pushing me out the door.

I stepped into the grass of my front yard and watched as Shane went into the open garage. He came out with a football in hand.

I shivered and zipped up my blue sweatshirt, and fingered with a lose strand of hair.

 "Ready?" He called.

 "Just throw the ball."

Shane tossed it to me, and it was aimed right for my head- I ducked and heard him groan.

"What?" I snapped.

"The ball went into the woods."

"And you'd rather it make contact with my face then the woods?"

"Well, unless you want to go and get it..." He trailed off.

"NO! Trust me... That's okay. I'll go get the other one from the garage."

Shane laughed and nodded. I felt his eyes on me while I ran into the garage and grabbed the other football from the shelf.

"Here" I said handing the football to him. "Don't aim for the woods or my face."

Shane raised a brow, and put his fingers on the laces of the football, and threw it hard at my chest. I caught it before it could hit me.
