I pulled down the handle on the 'Australia post' box to check if my envelope had gone in the box properly. Yep. I bit my lip, shoved my hands into my pockets of my skinny jeans and walked off, the wind blowing my blue scarf and my long brunette hair back out behind me.
As I got back home I walked straight up to my room and sat on my bed, getting ready for the long wait in finding out if I had been accepted into a college in New York, one of the finest of course. I lay back on my bed and grabbed my iPhone, found my IM app and started tapping away, Chatting to my BFF Hayden about whether or not we thought we would get into our college of our choice. (we had both chosen the same one, NYU - New York University) Hayden, being the total up-herself girl she is, thought she would DEFINATLY get into NYU. I of course did not. Even though I wanted this more, I encouraged the idea of only Hayden getting in. I wanted to go to NYU for the huge seperate Boy-Girl dorms, high class facilities, great education & totally HOT American guys. We lived in Australia and it was gorgeous but, Hayden and I both needed to get into NYU.
Today was it. THE day. I hesitantly shuffled up the driveway to the cream painted-steel letterbox and lifted the lid to find only one envelope, addressed to 'Ms Isla Panedrem, 42 Policy way Sydney'
I picked it up carefully and walked through the door, past my nervous, excited, scared parents, and ran up the cream carpeted stairs to my bedroom where I threw it onto my pillow, jumped onto my stomach on the bed and stared at it for what felt like an hour. The grandfather clock downstairs chimed to confirm my estimate. Every second felt like an hour as I tore open the side to pull out what looked like an-an acceptance letter....! ACCEPTANCE! I screamed real loud in triumph as blackness surrounded me.
My eyes opened to the sound of my mum shaking me screaming, "You made it in! You made it in!" over and over. I smiled and reached for my phone when I heard it vibrate. I looked at the screen which read: Incoming call: Hayden. I tapped 'answer' and I screamed into the phone, "I made it!!!" she didn't answer. "Hay, you ok? Hay?" "I didn't make the cut Isla, maybe the next college I apply for..." "Whatever happens Hay, I'll be with you OK?"
I zipped up the zipper on my bag and hooked on the combination lock. I had promised to call Hayley when I arrived in New York , and I put her on speed dial earlier today. I grabbed my bag and slid the strap over my shoulder before running to the stairs and sliding down the bannister towards my crying parents. "Its just too soon!" my father sobbed. I pulled him into a hug and tried to reasure him. "I've got to go sooner or later, Dad." he sighed. "I know..." I took a step to my right and hugged my mum, who started bawling as soon as I touched her. "Its gonna be fine, i'll call you heaps." she sniffled and let me go before saying, "I know, but your father is right, you weren't born yesterday... YOU WERE BORN TODAY!!" she screeched the last part out before dad scooped her up and they were both bawling their eyes out. I checked my DKNY watch before joining the hug, saying my goodbyes and running out the door to my car.
I was confident as I walked through the gates onto the campus. I felt like Hayden Panettiere in that 'Bring it on' movie. Everyone was staring. My bags were getting heavy, so I decided to go straight to the girls dorms. I looked at my map thing. I was in room... 1. Huh, funny...
I kept walking before I saw this totally hot blonde. I stopped dead of course. Hot! Huge muscles, blonde shaggy hair, tall, great fashion sense, emerald-blue eyes, thick lips... Swoon! A high voice caught me off guard. "You infected huh?" I turned to see a real pretty black haired girl who dressed in too much pink... "maybe.." I thought I should be cautious near Malibu Barbie, so I walked backwards towardsthe girls dorms before turning around to see the hot blonde checking me out. I knew this one... I smirk, he smirks, I walk off and somehow we 'happen' to bump into each other.
And it went just like that.
