~~~Author's Note~~~
Hello everyone! This is my newest book, and also book 6 in the letters of change series. This is Gideon Wade's story and many of you will know who that is if you read my other books lol but if not you don't have to, though it is part of a series you can also read it by itself. Also for those of you who have read the other books I just wanted to let you know I've made some changes Gideon's family is smaller- His parents Daniel and December now only have nine children- Laura, Jennie, Annie (I changed Rhiannon's name to Annie because it was more proper of that time period.) Gideon, Isaac, Abbie and Ariel, Josh, and Daisy. It's just better that way because I barley even mentioned the other children (Finn, Silas, Hannah and Hope) I'll go back and edit the other books after I'm finished with the series =]
Enjoy XX
Chapter One
~~
September 1st 1902
Gideon took off his hat looking up at the cloudless sky the sun seemed to beat down on him. It seemed to be warmer today than it had been all summer.
"Unusual weather for this late in the summer" Isaac commented as if reading Gideon's thoughts as he stopped his own horse near Gideon's
"Perhaps it'll just stay warmer longer?" Gideon suggested.
"In Colorado? I Doubt it."
Gideon nodded as he hit his Stetson hat on his thigh knocking trail dust from it, and then placed the hat back atop his head. The last stop on the orphan train wasn't far; he knew the trail well by now. His mother December and his Father Daniel had been going for some time now to take any un-adopted children back to their orphanage, which many stayed at even after they were of age.
His father had sent only him and his younger brother Isaac this time not thinking many would be left.
Isaac looked around them "I never liked this you know, children being transported on a train while people pick and choose them, it's like their cattle."
"It's rather demeaning to the ones who don't get homes I reckon." Gideon agreed. His parents had adopted three children, and taught all of their nine children to help those in need. His own mother was raised in an orphanage in Boston, the root of her need to help children because she knew what it was like to grow up without parents.
He was thankful he never knew what that was like, he had grown up in a tightknit family and though it was crazy sometimes with so many brothers and sisters he wouldn't trade them for the world.
"I got a letter from Ariel yesterday" Isaac said "She wants us to come visit her soon."
"I was thinking about going to see her soon, maybe we'll stop and see a Ginny on the way?"
"Maybe... I'm not sure Lorraine would like that very much though." Isaac said looking up at the sky "But I have been itching to travel lately."
"Lorraine isn't your wife yet, you should still be able to travel if you want too." Gideon said annoyed his brother had let a debutant control his life. Sure she was pretty but what would looks be good for when her personality was so un-agreeable, and besides they had nothing in common.
Isaac had always loved to be outside and he had always loved travelling, rather it was just to Wyoming or all the way to California. Lorraine on the other hand wanted to stay in Denver, she rarely went outside based on her pale creamy complexion and she didn't know a thing about hard work, which wasn't good since he and his brother now lived on their own ranch they planned on expanding.
