The moon was full tonight as I looked up into the dark and cloudy night sky. My family and the clan were gathered in a circle for the ceromony for our goddess. We were the felines. Made up of all women we carried the feline trait that gave us many abilities and responsibilities to carry around on a daily basis.
My mother came up to me and looked into my eyes that were at the moment a reflection of hers.
"Are you ready for the ceromony daughter?"
My name was Raven and this was my first attendance ata feline ceromony. I'd know about it for years and this was going to be the first time I will make the transformation and welcomed into the goddesses arms. All the women of my family have gone into the feline change into the cats of the night. I was going into the change at seventeen. A later age from my mother's doing.
"Yes mother I'm ready and waiting"
I had never been as close to my mother as I could be. She always seemed to look at me like I was never anything much to look at. I thought I was a normal looking person except for my eyes. They changed color depending on my mood. Like they were my personal mood ring. Showing everyone on the outside my inner feelings.
"Raven it's time" I looked to the face of my sister Hope.
I looked around the clearing we were in surrounded by the thick forest trees. The stone sun dial was almost to the midnight hour and it was time for me to get into place. I took a deep breath and walked past my mother and my sister to the stone sun dial.
Every single person parted so that I could pass. At each of these ceromonies only one girl was allowed to make the transformation. And only on a full moon.
The soft and smooth black dress I wore swayed. It was comfortable even though it clung to my body, hugging all the right places. My hair was loose and naturally curly everywhere. I spent half an hour getting it perfect. Everything and everyone looked beautiful in the brightness of the moonlight.
I stood right in front of the sundial now. I placed my hands on either side of the dial. Even though it was dark I could tell midnight was only seconds away. I could hear hushed murmers behind me. And then inside me I felt something click.
It was midnight.
My stomach knotted and I gasped at the sudden pain and clung to the stone. Then I felt something like a wall break inside of me.
I squeezed my eyes shut and started panting. Everything inside of me was twisting and churnig around me. It calmed for a second and then a tornado of fire burned in my chest. I dropped to my knees and clung even harder to the stone when I realized my hands felt different somehow. Through the pain I forgot I was changing.
Pains shot through every vein, my blood was being replaced by fire. I let out a small whimper. I felt my fingers stretch into claws and I was so surprised I opened my eyes. I saw my hands was covered in soft fur and sharp gleaming claws emerged from them with a silverery shine. I was in awe from the beauty from it I lost the hurt of the pain.
"She's beautiful..." I heard someone say.
My ears perked. My ears! I felt them at the side of my head but they were higher. I hadn't even realized I shut my eyes again, but I opened them again and everything was so clear. The night didn't look darker anymore. It just looked like a normal day with the sun up except it was much dimmer. I saw the purples and grays and red tones come out from the night.
The pain had stopped completely and I felt so much stronger and better than ever before. I heard animals drinking water from a stream in the woods. As well as slow breaths from behind me. They were probably waiting for me to turn around. I got to my feet somehow gracefully and looked down at my new feline body. It was jet black as my hair and on every tip there was a soft curl. The dress was still on but barely. With a clawed hand I ripped it off exposing my naked fur body, fully formed. I examined my claws and purred silently in pleasure of the moment. Something behind me reacted.
A tail! It swished lazily through the air. I smiled and made it loop even more in the air.
Not a single thing about this moment was all that strange. It just seemed wondurous.
I turned to the small crowd of feline members and my family and gave a small smile that I hoped looked right in this form. My whiskers twitched.
In a moments notice everyone smiled and then instantly started their own transformations. Some of the men who actually knew about us looked in awe at they're mothers and cousins and sisters. All except one male who's green eyes were locked on me.
