**Alex’s POV**

“I’m looking forward to Quidditch this year,” I yawn, stretching and leaning against Angelina. We’re on the Hogwarts Express heading into our third year at Hogwarts. Angelina shoves me off the seat and I land hard on the floor, laughing. I look up at all my friends, Alicia, Angelina, Felicity, Lauretta, Scarlett, Carma and Sophina. The compartment is kind of squishy, but we could stand not sitting together.

I climb onto the seat next to Scarlett and pull out a book. Over the past two years I’ve learnt a lot about these girls.

Alicia and Angelina are amazing Quidditch players. They, with Scarlett, are chasers for the Gryffindor team. Alicia is sweet and reliable and Angelina is really tough. Felicity is definitely a girly girl and is already starting to eye off boys. The thing she’s most looking forward to is dates in Hogsmead. Lauretta is a bit moody and it’s best to leave her alone when she’s in a bad mood, but she’s always willing to help with homework and is never too busy for a girl talk. Sophina is the quiet one of the group. She’s the one everyone goes to for a hug or a cry. She’s very talkative when it’s one on one, but in a group she prefers to listen and is quite frequently our mediator. Carma is the brains of the group. She’s cool-headed, focused and reasonable. She always stands up for what she believes in and often gets into arguments because of that.

And then there’s Scarlett.

Scarlett is the wild one. She spends as much time pranking with Fred and George as she does hanging with the girls. She’s a bit of a rebel. She got her eyebrow pierced over the summer and frayed the bottom of her skirt. In saying that, she’s also the mother of the group. When we have and issue that we can’t cry out, we go to her. Maybe it’s because she’s the oldest, I don’t know, but something about her just makes everyone trust her.

And then there’s the boys. Fred and George are completely un-serious about everything in life and seem to want to cause as much trouble as they can, aided by Scarlett, who, with her combination of brains and daring, make a perfect partner in crime for them. Adam is the male version of Scarlett, except quieter. He’s the one who makes smooth, cutting comments and shuts everyone up with them. He wears baggy jeans with his school shirt and vest and has an earring. Henry also fits in the male-Scarlett category. He has snakebites and wears skate shoes with his school uniform. He’s quiet and I don’t think I’ve ever heard him say more than one sentence at a time. Jace is our athlete. He grew up in a muggle family too and he’s big into soccer and basketball. He occasionally organises games with other muggle-borns or half-bloods, or even pure bloods who we’ve managed to explain the rules to. Lee is the jokes guy. He’s pretty funny and drops great one-liners. Tobias is our ladies-man. Nearly all the girls – except for us – are crazy about him and he’s usually surrounded by a group of them. Tommy is our go-to guy. He spends most of his time playing guitar beside the lake and is great to go to for advice when Scarlett is off with Fred and George.

“Alex, are you okay?”

I look up at Scarlett.

“I… I think I wet myself,” I squeak, blushing.

“Ew,” Felicity wrinkles her nose.

“I know a spell,” Scarlett says, “stand up.”

I stand up and feel something warm running down my legs. I look down and scream.

“I’m bleeding!” I cry, tears welling in my eyes, “I’m going to die!”

I start crying hysterically.
