Graceful, as she might have always seemed,

People praised, bewildered of where she had been …

She struggles all the way, through thick, through thin,

While ignoring all the pain within.

Her life has become, a live, dramatic show,

For an audience who will never know …

Had become a puppet, did as she was told.

From one puppeteer to another, she had been sold.

Till that day, when she was mocked for her looks,

Then she just, hid behind her books.

Strings confined her, her moves were all predicted.

Restrained in a cage, she was now depicted.

She had become, now so nameless,

So unknown, and so blameless.

Her skin so shrivelled, from all that dreadful rain.

They cloud over her. She wonders if she is sane.

She represses her anger, bottles all her rage,

Robed of her confidence, of all her courage.

Sat in a corner, she silently cries, every night.

No one there to wipe her tears, nothing feels right.

She prays and prays, for some serenity.

Hoping one day, she’ll have a real family.

From bondage, she wishes to be free,

Like the Hebrews, who once had to flee.

She knew, once useless, she would be fire wood.

She wanted to escape, but in her way, something stood.

The truth…she was only a puppet, a pathetic wooden toy.

Just amusement, and laughter, for every girl and boy.

At that point, she decided never to be numb,

Never to be useless, never to be glum.

But deep inside, her simple, lonely heart,

She knew this life, was never meant to be her part.

Thus, she carried on, only in vain,

Knowing in this life, there was something she will never gain.

Which was the love, and respect of someone true?

At thought of this, bitterness in her grew and grew.

But she was created for the sole purpose to obey.

And in her life, she had no say.

So she kept silent her lips were sealed.

To every demand she obliged and kneeled.

Her creative thought and mind were concealed.

For never again were they to be revealed.

But still she longed, for that glorious day,

When she would emerge, and break away.

Because, she is, a lot more than just an ‘it’,

Much more, much more … much more than a puppet.
