Do not weep for me

I have no idea where this came from, the first two lines got stuck in my head this morning and the rest just followed. Exactly who she is and why he died I think should probably be left up to your imagination ... not least because I have no answers, this certainly didn't come from my own experience. And I don't necessarily agree with the sentiment but the poem seemed to have a mind of its own!

"Do not weep for me when I am dead."

"Your tears won't ease the hurt," he said.

And he was right, and so instead

I lie awake at night in bed.

My waking dreams are filled with dread

Of all the things I left unsaid.

And now he's gone, not living, dead,

It breaks my heart we were unwed.

No widow's weeds of blackened thread,

No veil to cover o'er my head.

No child to follow in my stead,

Or mourn for me when I too am dead.

My heart is as a block of lead,

It weighs me down, it slows my tread,

But still my eyes no tears will shed.

"Do not weep for me when I am dead."
