 Chapter 1

Sydney

“My God, Sage. Your eyes. How have I never noticed them? They’re beautiful. The color” he breathed. “When you stand in the light. They’re amazing . . . like molten gold. I could paint those . . .” Those were the words Adrian had said last month and I hated to admit that somehow it touched a part of me, the way he looked, the way he said those words and the way he touch my cheeks. URGH! It can’t be! I can’t let myself fall for him.

“Sydney?” I heard Jill’s voice as she gently nudge me. I looked up to her with a confused expression.

“You keep on turning on bed. Can’t you sleep?” she asked. Seeing that I'm not my ownself lately.

“No, I’m fine. Go back to bed” I said not wanting her to worry about me.

“OK” she said and immediately left my bedside.

The sun was shining brightly the next morning and I saw Angeline and Jill getting dressed for school. As I watch the clock it was already 6:50, 30 minutes before class hours. I hastily climbed out of bed and dressed up. We walk through the longest corridor of the building and met up with Micah and Eddie to the other side of the building.

“Good morning!” both boys greeted with a bright smile on their faces.

“Good morning” we replied.

“By the way Micah, this is Angeline, our cousin” I said. Angeline is one of the keepers that was send to give more protection to Jill especially to what happened to us last month where me and Adrian were nearly killed by Lee Donahue.

“Yeah, I’ve heard. You transferred last night right?” he said shaking her hand.

I saw him flinched with Angeline’s grip.

“Yes, obviously that’s me” she replied looking so closely to Micah.

“Ok! You have a good grip by the way.” Micah said smiling. Angeline smirked.

“C’mon, guys, we’ll be late for class” Jill said and stalked off. We followed.

The class went out a bit fine for me but boring on the part of Eddie since he already repeated taking up this subject. Trey keeps on bugging me to go out in a date but iI firmly refused. I was about to go out in our ancient history class when Ms. Terwilliger called me.

“May I have a word with you Ms Melbourne?” she asked. I rolled my eyes and patiently corrected her for the nth time.

“It’s Melrose Ma’am”

“Whatever” she said waving her hand in the air. “You can go now Mr. Melbourne.. You too Mr. Juarez” she said looking at both Eddie and Trey who was still standing behind me. I was a bit thankful that I was able to escape Trey though.I looked at Eddie and nod giving him a signal that I'll be out in a minute.

“Meet you later at the gym.” I said to him.

“What is it?” I look at her suspiciously.

“I need you to do another research for me.” she hastily said seeing that I was already annoyed.

“Magic? Again?” I snapped.

She was the only person in school who knew what Eddie, Jill and the others were. I wasn’t still clarified though on how she knew such things.

“Yes, have you heard of the Tale of the Magic Flower?”

“Uhmm, yes” I said. The tale of the magic flower is about a flower whose healing properties can heal any kind of sickness, injury and others.

“I need you to know the properties of that magic flower”

“What? But it’s a legend!” I exclaimed.

“No, it isn’t. Because the magic flower is also known as Rafflessia”

Rafflessia? You mean the rat-eating flower? Where in the hell would I find one?” I can now feel my patience swiftly falling out.

“You don’t need one. You just need to know its properties”

“Fine, but after this, I won’t do any of your stuffs okay?” I ended

“Sure Ms Melbourne----- I mean Melrose” she said grinning.

I made sure that Jill was still alright and immediately went off for my next class when my cellphone vibrated. It was from Stanton, the head of the alchemist.

“Sage, I need full report on Ivashkov,Karp and Belikov research” Stanton ordered.

“Yes ma’am” I replied as she hang up.

Weew! What a tiring day ahead.
