Chapter 9

Kali:

After Hunter showed me the lake, we went to a supermarket because he had to buy more food.

I slipped away and grabbed the two ingredients I needed and slipped it into Hunter’s bag. He didn’t notice, even when he paid for it.

The whole way back to the pack house, I was smiling. But Hunter locked me back into my prison bedroom. So that was a minor setback. Crap, I needed to get this done! Luckily though, he didn’t chain me to my bed post.

I paced my room, desperate to find an idea on how to get out. I saw a small spider race up my wall desperate to be spotted. Perfect. I looked around quickly for a hard object. A large book came into view. I hid it behind my back and started screaming bloody murder. I heard Hunter’s feet racing up the stairs. A small smile slipped its way onto my face, but I quickly wiped it away and continued screaming. For better effect I jumped onto the bed and stared at the small spider frozen to the spot. Poor guy.

Hunter finally reached my room and flung open the door, leaving it there. Yes!

“What is it?” he asked looking around frantically.

“Spider,” I said pointing to the small black dot on my wall.

Hunter frowned.

“That tiny thing?” he said taking a step towards it.

He swung back his palm and the spider became a smudge on my wall. Aw didn’t mean for him to get hurt. He began to turn towards me.

“Ok its de—” he was cut off from the huge book connecting with his face. He fell to the ground knocked out.

I laughed.

“Puh-lease, like I’d be scared of a spider; I’m quite offended,” I said to his unconscious form. Then, I leaped off the bed, pleased with my acting skills, and sneak into Sam’s bathroom. Then I emptied out his shampoo bottle and replaced it with my secret weapon. Then I slipped down the stairs and into the garage where sure enough, there was Sam’s most prized possession, his car. I pulled out a can of whipped cream and began decorating.

Then I sprinted back into my room and skidded to a stop. Hunter was still passed out on my floor, and he was too heavy to move. I’m not that strong. So instead I slept in his room. I’m not dumb; the look on his face when he saw the book was hilarious. But I knew it was anger, and when he woke I was a dead girl. But it was worth it getting back at Sam. Revenge is sweet.

Today was going to be the best day ever! I could already imagine the priceless look on Sam’s face.

All this ran through my mind as I lay in bed. Then I remembered whose bed this was. Crap, I was so dead. Hunter was gonna pulverize me.

Soon, all thoughts of my death fled when I smelt Sam. Then I heard the running of water. Yes! He was having his shower now.

I lay in Hunter’s bed a little longer, listening to the shower. Then I heard my death sentence. Hunter’s furious roar filled the house. I jumped out of bed and ran for the door. Sure enough there was Hunter outside my bedroom fuming. I could almost see the steam coming out of his ears.

I squeaked and ran straight down the stairs and outside to where the pack was training. Hunter was shouting profanities at me the whole way. My rushed getaway soon caught the attention of the two packs — yes, the Shadow Pack was still here — and training was halted when Hunter came barreling out of the house. Then I halted. Hunter continued running towards me. I just stood there and listened, a satisfied smile spearing on my face.
