Blood of Olympus: The Opening (Completed)

Dedicated to

I'm sorry I haven’t updated in a while, guys, but I've been trying to focus more on school and less on writing. Also, I've had recent family/health issues, so that’s kept me from writing a bit. However, I am trying to get back into the groove of things; in the meantime, please just be patient with me.

            Again, I'm sorry!

Curse the spoons, love the carrots!

Hazel Levesque, daughter of Pluto

“Has anyone seen Jason?” Percy asked, his brow furrowing when he walked into the kitchen to find it empty of everyone but Hazel and Leo. “I can't find him anywhere.”

Hazel shook her head. “I haven’t seen him or Piper all day,” she told Percy.

“They're probably making out in some dusty corner of the ship,” Leo muttered without looking up from his paperclip helicopter. He’d been working on it all morning, and whenever Hazel asked him what he was doing, he simply said he was sending a message to a friend. Why he couldn’t just IM his friend, Hazel didn’t have a clue.

Then again, Leo had been acting strange ever since his return from wherever Khione had sent him. Hazel knew Piper, Jason, and Percy had all tried to get the story out of him, but he hadn’t told anyone. Of course, Hazel knew he’d met a girl, but that was all she knew. It was much more than frustrating.

“But I can't find Frank, either,” Percy said worriedly, the frown lines above his brow deepening. “None of them are onboard.”

“Maybe they just… went for a walk,” Leo offered, looking up from his helicopter to shrug.

“We’re in the middle of nowhere, Leo,” Hazel pointed out. “Where would they go?”

“Technically, we know where we are, so it’s not nowhere,” he grinned at her, “but I see you point.” She rolled her eyes at his stupid joke, but Hazel couldn’t deny the fact that it felt amazing to have Leo as just as a friend. Not the cute boy who kept fighting Frank for her attention, or the one who reminded her so much of Sammy Valdez from her old life; just Leo.

“I tried IMing Jason,” Percy said as though Leo hadn’t spoken. “But I couldn’t get a connection.”

A small seed of worry and doubt planted itself firmly in Hazel’s stomach. Frank, Piper, and Jason were all missing with no note or explanation… Had Gaea taken them? Were they in trouble?

The thin, fearful voice was unfamiliar to Hazel for a moment before she realized it was Annabeth; moments later, the daughter of Athena walked in. Hazel’s eyes widened, and Leo’s fingers froze on his paperclip helicopter.

It didn’t even look like Annabeth. Her blonde hair was lank and dull; it hung around her thin, gray face in wispy strands. It didn’t even look like she’d bothered to brush it when she woke up in the morning, and she probably hadn’t. Her clothes were stained, and torn in various places. Her eyes were dull and hollow. She didn’t look human anymore.

Hazel and Leo had a hard time regaining their composure, but Percy remained expressionless upon seeing his girlfriend like this. Only the barest hint of pain in his eyes revealed how much it tortured him to see Annabeth this way.
