It's friday afternoon and I'm currently lounging on the couch, reading a magazine. Ian wrapped up my torso with Joel's help so that I'll be able to "heal faster". Notice the quotes. Anyways, Ian has stopped me from cooking and cleaning which is a wonderful thing because I finally get a break. Although the pain has lessened some, I still feel mild throbbing in my mid section, which is better than the last few days. I haven't had any dreams since Tuesday night and it's kind of a let down because the only way to escape Ian is through my dreams.

I hear Ian's footsteps stomp on the hardwood so I slowly sit up. He paces in front of me as I observe him with a confused look.

"Shit." He mumbles before throwing the paper down on the coffee table.

"What's up?" My confusion turns to happiness when I pick up the paper and read the front headline.

'Parents And Friends Determined To Find Missing Nevada Woman.' I slowly glide my fingers across each boldly printed letter. The corners of my mouth curve into an ecstatic smile. That's the best news I've ever read. In fact, that's the first news I've read since I've been here. With no television there's no way of me knowing what's going on other than reading celebrity magazines.

My eyes roam the page as I continue reading:

'As of Tuesday, May 18th, there have been no possible leads in the case of 20 year old college student, Ava Campbell. Her friend, Dana Daniels, reported her missing Sunday morning after she had gone on a date with a man named Ian and never returned. Ms. Daniels told the police that she only knew his first name and couldn't describe his appearance because she left Campbell's apartment early to go babysit her brother. It's reported that Ms. Campbell left her phone and the police have found no evidence of forceful entry or struggle. Her family and friends have made this statement Wednesday morning: "Please, if anyone has any information on the whereabouts of Ava please let us know. She's a very good girl; she wouldn't run away." Her mother, Sandra, broke down in tears right after as her father, Adam, consoled her.

Dana Daniels, her bestfriend of 3 years says she is hoping to find Ava before it's too late. Her ex- boyfriend Chris Pope, is also taking part in the search. The county police would appreciate any information on this case.'

They leave a number and name of the sheriff department at the bottom of the article.

As the article comes to a close, my eyes skim over a picture of me a few days before I was kidnapped. I was with Dana at the movies, wearing my favorite light blue "Running is what we do" track t-shirt and we were acting silly of course. I laugh out loud but stop, quickly looking around for Ian. I'll never give him the joy of hearing me laugh.

I'm too busy reading the article to notice that Ian has left the room and is no where in sight. So I decide to walk into the kitchen for a drink. I pour a glass of water and see the painkillers on the counter so I down those too. The refreshing H2O quenches my dry throat and I sigh happily before putting the cool glass down.

My heart begins to race when I see movement out of the corner of my eye. I squint my eyes to try to see out the window but my efforts are futile so I decide to move closer to the window. Shock fills my features when I see a man trying to look inside. His short, brown hair looks familiar. I rush over to the back door and I find myself suddenly immobile when I see it's Chris. He knocks on the door with a look of panic. The noise brings me back from my trance and I speed walk to the door with a new surge of hope swelling through my body. It's like the warm feeling your body gets after drinking hot coffee or tea.

I smile from ear to ear when I realize that I have another chance at being saved. I pull on the handle but the door stays closed. I look down and see the touch screen pad. My breathing quickens when I remember the password protected remote he uses to control the doors and windows. I'm locked in here and he's locked outside. After staring at the locked door my hollow eyes meet Chris's vibrant hazel ones and his warm smile brightens my heart. He puts his hand on the glass and I do the same. Our hands would be touching if not for the glass barrier.
