Chapter One

Sitting on the table I stared at the textbook in front of me not really paying attention to the private tutor's words as my mind began to wonder off like it usually did. It had been the same for the last 18 years of my life, being trapped in my own home just for my own safety, wondering why I had been confined and banned to leave the confines of my own home, I thought back to 17 years ago when my mother had passed away leaving me in the hands of my father, a man who was to love and protect me from all evils in the world, is this what she wanted? For her daughter to be trapped and suffocated instead of living her life to her own hopes and dreams?

Flashback- 17 years ago,

She ran, as fast as her feet could carry her she ran, she had to save herself if not she had to protect the baby girl in her arms, she wouldn't allow her child to die a death before she even lived her life. Her heart was beating fast as her adrenaline ran low her body was slowing down because of the weight in her arms and the wounds on her legs, but she did not stop she was almost there! A few more minutes and her daughter would be safe, but fate was against the woman as heavy footsteps got louder behind her and the voices even angrier. Sooner or later they would find her but her determination wouldn't allow it. Up ahead she saw the white pristine mansion gleaming from the glow of the moonlight, her motivation grew as she saw her safe haven ahead, while her body started to tire from the days of running, hiding and lack of food, her wounds had been opened as the branches had scratched and clawed at her arms and legs. Her breathing grew slower and heavier as she found it harder to breath than before, her eyes started to close as she tried to fight the drowsiness that was taking over her.

"There she is! Don't let her get away; her and her daughter must die before they get to Leonard Santiago!" NO!!!! I will not let them harm Islay! (Pronounced I-la). Finding the strength to continue for the sake of baby Islay I pushed myself harder until I ran past the perfectly cut bushes and found myself standing in front of the mansions bright red doors. The shouting was coming closer now, turning round I found 3 men, big strong and extremely dangerous, they were panting hard, all of a sudden the biggest of the men reached into his pocket and pulled out something shiny. Before thinking twice I reached out to the button and kept slamming the bell, I heard it ring a few times and then the door whipped open revealing the old and wrinkled face of Benjamin.

"Benjamin! Where is Leo? Please hurry!" His horrified expression turned to one of panic as he ran back inside panting, probably to find my husband and wondering about how I reached home and who those men were a few feet behind me.

A gunshot went off behind me twice, without expecting it my body lurched forward from the impact, a pain spread from around my heart, looking down I saw as my pale blue ripped up shirt slowly turned red from the blood pooling inside me, time slowed down as the last of my energy began to leave me. A dark figure came running towards me with security behind him. "Jen!" The scream of fury erupted from my dear Leo's chest as his blue eyes landed on the flood of red on my chest. His eyes looked behind me and instantly the guards behind him pulled out guns of their own and ran after the men who had been chasing me. I didn't have enough time! "Leo, hold Islay please, you need to listen to me" as soon as he held her, I fell to the ground groaning from the agony that was beginning to spread all around.
