Falling For You

I let out a very loud, even to my ears, scream as I fell towards to compact snow. Very ungracefully, I might add. I have no idea what my parents were thinking. My name so doesn’t fit me. Then again I have never really fitted in. Anyway, falling towards certain death by humiliation…

Letting out a gasp as the air was knocked out of me, due to falling flat on my front, my face colliding hard with the snow covered ground. I wasn’t hurt, not that I knew of anyway. Only a bit peeved off that my habit of falling had to choose this moment, of all moments to attack. Groaning I hit my head off the ground for being such an idiot. I sent a silent prayer to God, hoping that the beautiful sounding creature had not noticed and continued laughing, far away, where he couldn’t see me.

So far, I wasn’t very lucky today. The laughter had ceased.

Hearing the crunch, crunch of footsteps coming closer the dread and embarrassment increased. Face still stuck in the snow, I grudgingly lifted my head to meet a pair of faded navy converses. Seriously? I’m wearing sensible, good-grip walking boots and yet I’m the one who falls. I lifted my snow covered face higher to see…an angel. Yep, I’m sure he was, must be, no normal person could look so good. Okay Grace, going a bit over the top here. My green eyes wandered over his leather jacket clad chest, before lowering slightly to observe his perfect fitting jeans, before finally looking back to his face. To sum it up; he was hot! ‘Woah…’ I breathed, then realised I had said that out loud, resulting in most of the snow on my face melting due to my now scarlet cheeks.

Much to my surprise instead of laughing at me he had a small, but sweet smile on his face, his glove covered hand stretched down to me. I just stared at it, like the idiot I am. Then flustered, realised what he was doing and hesitantly moved my arm from under my body to lift up and meet his hand. He pulled me up, putting a hand to the small of my back to steady me as I stumbled. When I reached my full height, I was looking at his chin, it was a really nice chin. All hard and soft in the right places, light stubble across his jaw…I was staring at his chin. What is wrong with me?

Finally after several moments trying to regain my composure, but failing, I looked up to meet his eyes. The best part of him, yet. They were grey, but not dull; they seemed to have a playful gleam to them as he looked down at me still waiting for me to say something. I think he must have realised I wasn’t going to speak anytime soon, the only thought going through my head was ‘He’s so close to me, he’s so hot, so close, so hot…’and onwards. Then he opened his mouth, ‘Are you ok, sweet thing? You didn’t hurt yourself when you fell, did you?’ My eyes almost popped out of my head. He- Was- Irish! I vaguely heard a ‘huh..?’ escape my lips as I continued to stare at this Irish god in all his beauty.

‘You must have hit your head pretty hard, huh?’ he moved the hand still holding mine to move a strand of hair that had fallen in my face. I kept telling myself he was just looking for an injury. It wasn’t until his hand rested lightly on my cheek that I found my voice.

‘Em… thanks?’ I said unsure of myself.

‘You don’t sound certain on that darling, you sure you didn’t hurt yourself?’

‘My name’s Grace.’ I stated.

‘What?’

‘Well you kept calling me pet names, but it’s Grace,’ breathing unsteadily, still very much aware of his touch.

‘Would you like to go get some coffee, Grace?’ I loved the sound of my name on his lips. ‘My friends just went back inside after meeting some people, if you want to join us?’ his eyes held a hint of hope in them.

‘Well I’m not sure about coffee, but hot chocolate, I can’t say no to, em…?’ I asked his name.

‘It’s James,’ he smiled that smile of his, and I nearly died, again. ‘And hot chocolate sounds so much better than coffee, it’s just the common phrase, you know?’

‘I know,’ I said staring in awe at him for having the same viewpoint.

He just smiled. That was enough to have my heart beating not double, but triple time-this can’t be good for my health.

With another light touch on my cheek he turned us around so his arm was around my shoulder and he pulled mine around his waist, walking with me towards Starbucks that was just across the street. Even though we had just met, it felt right. He was just too warm to let go.

Blushing I realised that people inside the coffee shop could have seen everything if they had just looked out of the large windows that covered the shop’s front.

‘So, Grace, tell me what were your parents thinking when they gave you that name?’ he joked, laughing light heartedly, well at least I hope he was joking. I laughed along with him, knowing he was right. I was smiling at the beautiful sound of his laughter, as we walked into Starbucks laughing, together.
