Chapter 14
I woke up to an empty bed with the smell of bacon and coffee seeping through the crack in the door. I pushed the thick duvet off me and stretched out across the massive king size bed; thinking back to last night;
Austin carried me up to his room and placed me on the bed he then went over to his dresser and pulled out one of his black t-shirts and tossed it to me "Here you can wear this to bed if you'd like, I'll give you your privacy" and with that he disappeared into the bathroom attached to his room. Once I informed him I was decent he came back out in nothing but his boxers; revealing his perfectly tanned sculpted body and climbed in bed with me. The sight of him half naked made my heart race a thousand miles a minute and made me think of all the things I wanted to do with him. I had to fight to keep myself under control. Once he was next to me he stretched out his arm as an invitation for me to come to him and I obeyed instantly.
We spent the next couple hours lying just like that; talking about ordinary things like school, my friends, movies, music. Anything that would keep me talking anything about me...that is. When I would try and turn the conversation onto him he found a way to bring it back to me, he definitely knew how to keep my mind sidetracked and after too much talking I fell asleep in his arms - nightmare free - it was the best sleep I have ever had.
Bringing myself back to the present I decided it was time to make my way down to Austin; so I hesitantly took off Austin's shirt that he let me wear and changed back into my clothes. I opened the door quietly and exited the room, once at the top of the stairs, more delicious smells filled the air, I could smell the bacon and coffee along with toast, eggs, and muffins? Running my fingers through my hair trying to look a bit presentable I started down the stairs.
When I reached the bottom Austin was standing in the kitchen his deep brown hair a little messy and he was wearing dark blue jeans that fit him perfectly with a white tee. Then I noticed how he was surrounded by more food than I ever could have imagined.
"Good morning love, sleep well?" he asked as he approached and greeted me with a kiss to my forehead. Just the touch of his hands on either side of my face would have been enough to make my knees weak.
"Better than ever." I smiled up at him.
"Great! I hope you're hungry." He replied and turned back to kitchen.
"Ha, do you plan on feeding the whole block or something?" I joked as I gestured to all the food he had made. I was right about the bacon, eggs, coffee, toast and muffins but I left out the waffles, pancakes and bowls of freshly cut up fruit.
"Well...I've never actually made use of this kitchen, and you being here gave me a good excuse to do so and besides this way you have lots of options. I wasn't sure if you would still like the same things that you used to, and decided I didn't want to chance it."
"Oh, makes sense I suppose."
I could tell it was hard on him, my not remembering anything. And I so wish I could. How was our life? Did we get along really well, did we fight? I want those memories back...good or bad. It was my life...and is my life. As hard as it is for me to accept this, I can feel that what he's telling me is the truth. I can feel how he loves me, and I can feel how I love him. I may not know him anymore...yet but I know there's something there, something strong, something undeniable.
"Austin, why can't I remember anything?" I asked solemnly as I sat down with my plate of food.
Austin came and sat across from me and exhaled loudly. "I presume it is time I start explaining things to you, we can't hold off the inevitable...Alright, remember your dream and that potion you drank?"
I nodded my head in agreement. "Well that was supposed to bind your powers, which it did, but Castel was supposed to go with you and get you all set up. Explain to you everything about the human world, and tell you what you had to do to keep yourself safe. But he didn't do that, he figured it would be easier to take your old memories and replace them with fabricated ones; of a life in the human world."
"And you had no idea he was planning that?" I asked after I let the words sink in.
"None what so ever, when I found out what he had done I came straight here to make sure you were alright. A potion like that could have been catastrophic and Castel took a huge risk doing something like that. We expected that your powers may reemerge - a potion cannot bind powers forever and since he took your memories you wouldn't have a clue what was happening. So that's why I came here and when I realized it was happening I knew I had to intervene." Austin reached across the tabled and gently ran his fingers down my arm.
