Chapter 1
Annabella sat by herself at lunch, just like always. She was in her usual place; a sunny corner between two buildings. She looked up in confusion as a shadow was cast over her, blocking out the sun. She noticed a boy looking down at her. A rather handsome boy to be exact. With that unusual dark brown hair and blue eyes comination. He reached out a hand and said,
"Hi, I'm Zac. I'm new here."
Annabella stared at his hand until he drew it back. There was an awkward silence until Zac said;
"Aren't you at least going to tell me your name?"
"It's Annabella." She replied. "And you probably shouldn't be seen talking to me. It's social suicide."
"I can't understand why, you seem like the most interesting person I've spoken to all day."
Annabella just stared at him like he was crazy.
"Can I sit down?" he asked. Annabella made a hade gesture that said 'do what you like'. He sat and gazed at her. She was begining to feel uncomfortable when he stated,
"You don't talk much do you?"
Annabella shrugged.
"I never have anyone to talk to. I have no friends and my parents hate me." She replied. Zac just stared.
"I would say thats a bit melodramatic but I think I actually believe you."
"Oh don't worry it's true. They love my cousin though. You've probably met her and fallen in love with her already. Her names Alice."
"She's your cousin? She's such a bitch. Your nothing like her."
"Thanks, but I honestly don't need you to point that out. My parents do that all the time as well as like everyone else at this school."
"Sorry."
"Don't worry about it, I'm used to it by now. What I'm not used to is people sitting near me, especially when they have a choice."
"I try to avoid the crowd and do whad no one else would , but if you want me to leave I will."
"I think that would be best."
He looked slightly hurt but still got up. Before he left he turned towards her and said," It was good to meet you Anna." And then he was gone and she was left staring after him wondering if she had imagined the intimecy in the way he had said her name.
Zac sat during his afternoon wizardry lessons that he got every day of the tutor his parents had hired. Todays lesson was the geography and history of the island he was now living on. Nothing he didn't know. The centre of the island was were the Keeper of Secrets lived with the Angels he had hired. The surrounding land was split into four sections, which were occupied by eather the magic folk, the demons, the werewolves or the vampires. Their were humans in all sections, all of whom ar completly unsuspecting of who their neighbours could really be.
Zac's tutor was now upto the part about being unable to step into another section only your own or the unclaimed territory when his mind went back to his first day at school. After dealing with the admin laidies and their paperwork he went to his lessons. They sseemed like the usual human subjects; maths, english, PD/H/PE but Zac knew that at least half of the school were actually magic folk like himself. The girls were easy enough to pick of the overly beatifulones, the males, he could pick up the majority with his naturally ablity to pick them out. However he also got that vibe off a girl he wouldn't have picked. Annabella.
She was by far the most interesting girl at that school. She wasn't expecting to get everything because she was beautiful or trying to make herself anything other than herself.
And she hade been on Zac's mind since he spoke to her. He didn't know why, he just knew that she seemed like the most down-to-earth, level-headed and smart girl at that school.
Her cousin Alice had been the first girl to introduce herself. If Zac was totally honest he would say she was just like any other high school queen bee he'd ever met. She spoke to him like she knew he'd love her like everyone else, and that if he crossed her she would be a dangerous enemy, Alice had also invited him to a party this weekend saying he should come so they could "get to know each other". The party was on unclaimed territory at a humans house with guar alcohole and fun with the occaisional supernatural here and there. It sounded like a good way to meet some people and have some fun. So why did he not want to go?
After tea, Annabella went upstairs to practise her witchcraft. Today had been a strange day for her. For a start someone actually came over and spoke to her, and then HE kept coming into her mind driving out all other thoughts. She told herself she was stupid. She had no reason to lke him and besides, hes way out of your league, she told herself. Yet she couldn't stop thinking of those gorgeous blue eyes.
