Part 24

Anna's POV

We had no choice but to date the announcement the day after we found out about it. It was for the best, and it ensured nothing came out from Giselle. Auntie had told me she, Giselle, was mad when she first found out it was void, at least, for now.

Mom, Dad and Jace were already heading here, and they already knew everything. Dad wasn't happy, but he understood. I also told Em, Keel, Sammy and Liam about the whole fiasco. I wasn't able to contact Luke and Sky though, no matter how many times I tried calling.

"The Royal Palace has just announced the betrothal of His Royal Highness Chanceon Nathaniel Bell Simonth to Miss Annalisa Caprione. It has been worded from Their Royal Majesties through representatives. No one expected it, and the Palace has refused to give any further information. They are currently not entertaining any questions regarding the betrothal, but they are scheduling an interview..."

I jumped out of my bed, turned my TV off and tip-toed to Chancey's room. I opened the door and saw him lying down on his bed, watching the same news channel I was watching.

"Being rude now, Nie?" he said, half-lying down, looking at me with a raised eyebrow.

I rolled my eyes and smiled.

"Well, considering you never bother to knock when going to my room, I'd say we're even," I said and jumped on his couch, in front of the TV.

"Never said you could lie there," he said and chuckled.

I was about to make a senseless retort, but I heard my phone ring. I took it out of my shorts' pocket, and the caller ID read "Emi."

Chancey looked over at me and raised an eyebrow. I saw him lower the volume of the television.

I answered my phone saying,"What's wrong, Em?"

"Umm. Hey, Anna. Uhh. I didn't have the guts to say something yesterday 'cause we were in a five-way call. I'm not a hundred percent sure about it, but I just thought it was weird then. And, uhh.." she said, trailing off.

I scrunched my eyebrows and remembered she was awfully quiet when I phoned them all yesterday.

"What is it, Em?" I said, lying down, my feet propped up on the edge.

"Umm. It's just that. Well, Prince James was weird during the camping trip 'cause he.." she said.

My whole face scrunched up, and I wondered what kind of weird she meant.

"What do you mean, Em?" I said.

"Well. You remember when you found Prince Chanceon's phone during the trip? You answered it, and then you didn't seem happy when you listened to whoever was on the other line? Yeah, that time," she said, but I still didn't get what was weird with Jamie.

"The thing is. No, the point is, Anna, you didn't say who was on the other end. Prince Chanceon didn't say who it was either. I just, I'm not entirely sure. But he knew who it was, Anna. He just knew, and no one gave us hints. He actually said something along the lines of 'fact the one who called my brother is her own version of the devil doesn't help'," she said, sounding pretty unsure of herself.

My face changed expressions, and I said,"Hold on a sec., Em."

I looked over from the couch, and I looked at Chancey.

"C, did you ever tell Jamie about Amanda?"

He seemed confused with my question, and he shook his head, his brows meeting.

"No. I never mentioned it to him, either. Why?" he said.

I held my hand up as a hold on gesture, and I lied back down on the couch.

"Em, he never told Jamie. Then, what does that mean?" I said, making Emi gasp.

I could've rolled my eyes, but instead I said,"I'll get to the bottom of this, Em. I'll fill you guys in after everything, kay? Bye."

"Oh, okay. Good luck. Bye," she said, and I hung up and put my phone back in my pocket.

I jumped up from the couch, making Chancey raise his eyebrows and jumped on his bed. I sat cross-legged in front of him, making him frown.

"Chancey, Emi just told me something extremely weird," I said, rocking back and forth.

"What did she say exactly?" he said, crossing his arms over his chest.

"During the camping trip, right after I listened to the she-witch on your phone. Emi said Jamie knew it was her without anyone telling them. He told them who it was, eventhough we never said a thing about her. Don't you just find that weird?" I said, tilting my head to the side.

Chancey's mouth opened slightly, and he looked at me intently.

"But how could he have known then?" he said, mostly to himself.

I shook my head.

"We have to find out, C. But I only came up with one possible explanation as to how he could've known, and I wish it were wrong," I said and frowned.

***James' POV***

I was sitting in my room, groaning after listening to the news of the betrothal.

"Why? Why the f*** did this happen?" I said, rolling on my bed.

"Am I really that bad of a person? I mean, was it so wrong to do things to get the person you love? Why me?"

I shut up immediately, noticing how much of a weak little f***ot I sounded like. Then, I heard my door burst open, and my brother and Anna stood there as I looked up. I kept my annoyance at seeing them together to myself and smiled an eerily fake smile.

"What's up? Congrats by the way," I said, keeping the venom out of my voice.

Both of them frowned and walked in, closing the door behind them.

"Jamie, how did you know?" Anna said as she went near my bed, arms crossed, standing on the other end.

My brother stood beside her, arms crossed, too. I scrunched my eyebrows and wondered what she was going on about.

"Huh? Know?" I said, sitting up on my bed.

"Amanda. How did you know it was her who called during the camping trip?" she said, her face void of emotions.

I did? This is bad.

"Well, of course one of you said it," I said, looking in between my brother and Anna.

My brother shook his head and said,"No. We never said a thing, bro."

I kept my eyes from widening, and I mentally punched myself.

"Yes, one of you did. How could I have known then?" I said.

Anna frowned, as did my brother.

"Jamie, how did you know?" she said in a scarily, deadly, serious voice, making me wince.

"I. Uhh.." I trailed off.

I couldn't keep lying to her. It hurts. Hearing her speak like that to me hurts so so bad. She stared me down, and I sighed.

"I don't know," I whispered.

~~~~~~~~~~
After their failed attempt at getting me to tell them the truth, they left. I grabbed my phone, cursed at it, then I dialled a friend of mine from the newsroom.
"Hello, Chad?" I said.
"Hey, Your Highness. Are we go now?" he said.
"We're a go, Chad," I said and smiled to myself.
Let the media frenzy begin. It's not over, not if I have anything to say about it, yet.
