Changing Draco Malfoy: When Lions and Snakes Collide BOOK 2

A little food for thought before we began another wonderful Draco/Lily adventure ^_^ :

We defended the STONE, we found the CHAMBER, we freed the PRISONER, we were chosen by the GOBLET, we fought with the ORDER, we learned from the PRINCE, and we commanded the DEATHLY HALLOWS.

Draco Malfoy smiled at the letter clutched in his eagle owl’s beak.

    It was from his best friend, Lily McCarthy. It felt weird saying that... best friend. He’d never really had a best friend before. Sure, he had Grabbe and Goyle, but they weren’t ‘best friend material’, as Lily called them. He honestly liked having Lily as a friend, best friend even. Though he wouldn’t admit it out loud. They had to keep their friendship secret. If any of his fellow Slytherins found out he was friends -- best friends -- with a Gryffindor, their rival House... Draco shivered. He couldn’t even think about it.

    Draco opened the letter, which, didn’t turn out to be a letter at all, but a postcard... and moving one at the least. It showed Lily, smiling brightly and waving happily from the picture. On the glossy front were the words: “Greetings from the Muggle world!” He turned it over and saw her loopy handwriting, nice and neat on the back:

         Just as the postcard says... Greetings from the Muggle world!

         I thought you might like this, I hope you do. Anyway, how are you and how’s life at Malfoy Manor treating you? :)

         Well, since this card has only so much space to write, I gotta sign off now. September first isn’t so far away now, just two months left. :)

         I’ll see you on the train.

    He and Lily had been writing back and forth ever since they got back from school. Though he’d gotten her in trouble the first time he sent her a letter by owl because of the Dursley’s (the family she was staying with). Apparently, the Dursley’s didn’t like anyone or anything relating to magic around them.

    Draco scoffed. “Gits,” he muttered under his breath. They were the worst Muggles he’d ever heard of.

    He just hoped Lily was having a better summer than he was....
