Epilogue
I was shaking. No, that’s not right, the bed was shaking. Or someone was shaking me which was making the bed shake? What on earth….
“Dad!”
I cracked my stinging eyes open, to see DJ sitting on the edge of the bed, a grin stretched across his face, a cup of coffee in his other hand.
I groaned and rubbed my eyes as I pushed myself up on one elbow. “Hey, Kid. What’s up?” I rasped, my voice thick with sleep.
He smiled. “Mom said I needed to wake you up at lunchtime otherwise you won’t sleep tonight,” he said, holding out the cup of coffee, waving it under my nose.
I smirked at him. “I wasn’t planning on sleeping tonight anyway, you kids are at your Nanna’s so I’m making the most of the privacy and ravaging your mother all night,” I stated, taking the cup and laughing at his horrified expression.
“I really am scarred because of you, you know!” he stated, fake gagging.
I laughed and slapped his knee playfully. “When you’re my age and married to a serious little hottie like your mom, you tell me that’s not going to be the first thing you do when your kids are out for the night,” I joked, winking at him, making him fake gag some more. I laughed and sat up, running a hand through my hair. “Where is Mom anyway?” I asked, glancing around the room. I usually got a better wake up than that if I’d been on sixteen hour nights all week!
He rolled his eyes. “Shopping for a new dress for the party tonight. Apparently, the one she wanted to wear is totally impossible, so she’s taking your credit card and buying something new because she says it’s your fault she can’t wear what she wanted to in the first place,” he stated, obviously giving her speech word for word.
I laughed; I could just imagine her face when she’d made that little speech, all pouty lip and big eyes. “Right,” I agreed. “So, kid, how was the date last night?” I asked, waggling my eyebrows.
DJ had been on his first ever date last night, with a girl he’d been after for a while from his school. He was a little bit of a late developer, and at fifteen was only now just starting to look at girls as something other than friends.
He blushed slightly and frowned. “It went good actually,” he mumbled, playing with his fingers.
I raised one eyebrow at him in question. “How good? Please tell me that you wrapped up!” I begged with wide eyes, knowing he would gasp and tell me where to go.
“Dad! What the hell? It was a first date!” he cried, looking really embarrassed.
I laughed. “Just checking. I’m too young and handsome to be a grandad yet so you keep that thing in check,” I stated, nodding down at his crotch.
He groaned and buried his face in his hands. “Do we have to have this conversation?” he whined.
I yawned and shook my head. “Nah, you can have it with your mom if you’d prefer,” I offered, waving my hand dismissively.
His eyes snapped up to mine, a begging, pleading expression on his face. “Please no?”
I smiled and patted his knee. “Your choice, Kid. Me or your mom, one of us is going to have to explain to you about the birds and the bees,” I teased, trying to be serious. In total honesty Rosie had actually asked me to speak with him but I was pretty sure he was all good, we’d spoken about it before, I had every confidence in the kid.
He groaned again. “Fine, you. Tell Mom I don’t want to talk about this stuff with her, it’s embarrassing! This is father and son stuff,” he whined, frowning at me.
