Chapter 34

Amaya shifted uncomfortably under all their stares.  She had never realized that it would be this awkward.  Even though she could not see the people staring at her, she knew they were there.  They had only arrived back at Blake’s home minutes earlier.  As soon as they arrived, Korbin ran inside, and Sebastian and Zeke met them outside.  She felt a little at odds, as if she were up for trial.  The only one that she knew would be on her side, Ally, was nowhere to be seen.  The Leopard King stood in front of her, his second in command next to him, and Blake next to her.  The other guards were near, she knew, but they did not come close enough for her to identify them.

“Lower your collar,” Sebastian called out.

Blake squeezed her hand in comfort as her free hand snaked up to tug her collar down.  Now in view for everyone to see was her mate mark, the mark that let everyone know she now belonged to Blake.

“Dammit,” Zeke mumbled.  “You couldn’t have waited?”

Amaya shook her head.  “And have someone deny our relationship, possible find a way to spit us up?  No.”

“We would not have done that,” Sebastian said in a calm, even tone.

Her face turned red as she realized he was telling the truth.  Her actions were done though.  It was done, and there was no taking it back.  “He just bit me,” she explained.  “We’re not ready for more.”

“Your bond will not hold for long,” Zeke told them, motioning towards their necks.

Blake stepped forward slightly.  “It will if we keep doing that until were ready for children.  We don’t have to be mated to be together.”

“It would make things easier, in a way,” Sebastian said, “but what is done is done.  By my eyes, the two of you are mated.  I have a question though.”

“What?” Amaya asked.

Sebastian let out a laugh that sounded as if could no longer stay silent.  “There are things you could do to stop yourself from, you know, ending up like Alex.”

Her cheeks turned red.  “Blake said the ceremony gave you no choice.”

“No,” Zeke said, “it gives you no choice if you are a true heir.  Ally had no choice, Leo’s mate had no choice, but unless Blake is an heir to something, we don’t know about.  You’ll be fine.”

She could feel Blake shift uneasily beside her.  “That would have been nice to know.  Ally said that it happened no matter what.”

“Ally,” Zeke said in amusement, “did not even know it would only take three months.  Are you honestly listening to what she has to say about the situation?”

“I guess you’re right,” Blake answered with a chuckle.  He grabbed Amaya’s hand and tugged her closer to him.  “Look at that.  We’ve got nothing to worry about.”

“But you do,” Sebastian called out.  “Blake, you mated her without permission from a male family member.  Amaya, you did the same; you were supposed to ask permission from a female family member.  You both know what that means?”

“I am not fighting Ally,” Amaya protested.

“Not now, you aren’t.  You will in a month, after she has the babies.  Blake, you and Zeke will fight.”

“Now?” Blake asked with a groan.  “Do I honestly have to do it now?”

“No,” Zeke replied, “you can fight me when Amaya fights Ally, and it will not be in a month.  Give it two.  After that, Ally will be strong enough to fight, and I’ll be back.”

“From where?” Amaya laughed.

“Alex sent him on a little break for two weeks,” Seb answered with a laugh.

Blake took a step away from the two shifters.  “Where is Ally?”

“Resting,” Zeke answered.  “Now, leave before we change our minds.”

Amaya shook her head as her and Blake began walking towards the cabin.  Waiting until they were safely in his room, she turned towards him.  “Did you hear that?”

“Yes, but we still wait.”

“What do you mean?” she asked in a confused tone.

Blake shifted slightly.  “I don’t know if I believe Zeke.  Something in his tone made me feel like he wanted something to happen.  I think we should hold off until we’re both ready, completely ready for such a big commitment.”

“You think Zeke has a plan?”

“When does he not have a plan?” Blake mumbled, encircling her in his arms.  “Everything will work itself out.  I’ve seen it happen with Ally and Seb.  As long as they are there for one another, it always works out in their favor.  They don’t let anything pull them apart, and it’s not because they are mated, it’s because they love each other.”

She rested her head against his chest.  “So, we wait.”

“Until we are both ready, we wait,” he answered before pressing a kiss to the top of her head.  “As long as we stick together, we’ll be fine, I promise.”

“You better keep that promise,” she joked as he leaned back onto their bed.  He cuddled her close to his chest.  Her eyelids began to droop, sleep began to take over, and she knew that he would never break his promise.  They would be okay, as long as they stuck together.

***The End***
