Zach's POV

I woke up feeling the sun's rays on my face. I groaned realizing that I had forgotten to close the curtains. I took a quick shower before heading down for breakfast. Mom was busy cooking breakfast. My stomach rumbled and I grinned as I smelled the delicious bacon making me drool. I kissed my mother on the cheek before stealing a bacon. My mom swatted my hand in a futile attempt to stop me.

"Zachary! Wait for your father and sister to come!" I winced as she said my full name.

"Sorry mom I couldn't resist your magical cooking." I grinned sheepishly giving her the puppy dog look I knew no one could resist. She fell for it and pinched my cheeks giving me a quick peck before demanding me to help her lay out the counter with the food.

Dad soon walked into the kitchen and as soon as he saw mom his eyes glazed over before striding to her and giving her a peck. I gagged at their PDA! They might be in love and all but seeing your parents behave like that is just...gross. I was starving and my siter was still not here!

"Zafia! Come down quickly!" I boomed losing my my patience . 

My little sister strode in with no care in the world and grinned at me. She loved torturing me every morning when she knew I was always hungry. Nevertheless she hugged me sideways before greeting everyone and we all sat down and wolfed down our breakfast.

Mom and dad left for work. Even though we had so much money they wanted to work to avoid boredom. My sister left to meet with her friends and do whatever it is they do. I grudgingly went to my study to continue with the paperwork I had'nt finished last night. After a while there was a knock on the door and Maggie's scent wafted through before I yelled a come in.

"Good morning alpha. I hope I'm not disturbing you. I wanted to talk to you about my neighbors the new humans"

"Morning Maggie. Nah you're not disturbing at all. Oh yes so, did you go and talk to them. How did hey seem?" I beamed at her. I may be an alpha and have to be professional and all but Maggie is the sweetest lady you can ever meet. She's like an aunt to me.

" Yes. The girl was the only one at home though. She's actually 16 so I think she would be going to your high school. She said her mum passed away during childbirth though. Poor little girl had no relatives too to take over as a mother figure. Anyways, she seemed a bit reserved and is very small for a girl her age. I couldn't really see her face though she was wearing a hood over her face and it seemed a bit suspicious but I didn't ask her anything. I offered her help with improving the facilities there. I don't think there is a heater in most of the bathrooms there and other amenities too. So I hope you could look into that. I don't think her father will have much time with those things since he must be working"

"Oh yes sure I will look into that. What is the girl's name?" maybe she could make friends with Zafia. She may not be a pack member but she's in my territory so I have to help them too.

"Her name's Sophia. And one more thing alpha, when she was walking there was a slight limp to her walk and I had this feeling that there might be something wrong. It's just a thought though"

"Hmmm alright thanks Maggie. Take care"

"You too alpha" with that she bowed slightly with respect and left. Even though as alpha I was to be respected I'm not used to my elders treating me like that. I have to get used to it one day. Hmmm I wonder what's going on with that Sophia chick. Frankly I've never met her but she sparks this curiosity in me like I have to find out more about her. Oh well she will be going to the same high school as me so I'll see her there.

While I started on my boring school work I remembered Sam mentioning seeing Sophia's father in the bar. So I ringed Sam's bar wanting to investigate about his behavior.

"Hi Sam. Are you busy?"

"Alpha Zachary. No I'm not really busy right now. Can I help you alpha?"

"Yes yes. Do you remember seeing that new human in your bar?"

"Ah yes his name is Peter. He was really drunk that day. He came the next day too. But he passed out in the bar. So I drove him home. His daughter was at home. She looked really small and it was quite dark but I could see some heavy bruising on her face and she was limping. She looked pretty horrified seeing her father and her heart was racing. Alpha... I think that there's something going on in there. They might not be a threat to our pack but his behavior is really suspicious."
