A Giant Step In Human Civilization Part 1:

The Evil Mind Of An Arrogant Scientist

A poem by CLEMENCE

******** Please feel free to post your comments************

With undisguised pride evident all around me

With my head held high, I walk and talk with a few others like me

With all members of my species looking up to me

And with all members of my species convinced that it's my life they desire to live

And with no one wise enough to understand who I aspire to be

Everyone had a vivid recollection of my wild- goose chases

And how I always hit two of them with one stone at the eleventh hour

With scholars vividly memorizing my theorems

And learners giving me more credit than a mere mortal deserves

I burn the candle at both ends

Even though aware that success is hardly on the cards

Even though progress is at a snail's pace

I dwell on the the reassurance that success is still in pipeline

So I can once again be in the limelight

Like my father before me who was famous as sunlight

And prove that I really am a chip off the old block

And possibly prove that that chip is better than the grand block

And failure is said to be inevitable, not to me

Because failure comes once in a blue moon to me

And is mostly a bolt from the blue

So I have to start from scratch and work tirelessly

Because failure is not completely avoidable altogether

Admiration from the females of my species is a feather in my cap

But to the unleashing of the beast, I have devoted my heart

Amongst the general population I am a fish out of water

I was blessed with a mind brighter than the sun

If matter were doubt, mine would be a vacuum

Devoid of any material doubt

And since my mind is like the Alpha Canis Majoris

He who opposes me is like the gigantic black hole of the Andromeda spiral

With all women insisting that their men replicate me

I am everything all old timers wish they had been

With all pre- adolescents singing that they would be like me

My existence, the wise decide to despise

My theories, the wise find unwise

In my theories, the truly wise find no fascination

In my research, the truly wise find nothing but destruction

In my castles built in the air, religions uncover seeds of evil and doubt

But who dares refuse the seductive cup of success?

After centuries of burning fossils and disintegrating

The self- regulatory part of our protective mother

The cat has finally exited the bag of research

After centuries of deathly sleep, the hour has come round at last

For the destroyer to aid us in our fight against the decomposed

And upon unsuspecting earthlings, it has been unleashed

And together as one, the world turns over a new leaf

From the golden olden Smokey chokey destructive green house gases

To the highly efficient futuristic fiery fissions and fusions

And it's all thank to me

Now I am walking on air on this red letter day

And my jubilation seems irrevocable

Can life possibly get any better than that?

Can any part of development match the description of dangerous?

Of course not, what is life without risks?

Answers the collective voice of Spiritus Mundi

But Lo! Behold!

The wise ones agree to disagree

Behind the scenes, they oppose me

Their vendetta against illumination

Is much more than an open secret

Whenever I reach cloud nine

They are always at my beck and call

To knock me down to the fiery depths of failure

What if the giant turns on us? They preach

Whoever listens to those who are long in the tooth? I assure myself

With them, clearing the air is an impossibility

When I put my cards on the table

I proudly announce that they are two - faced

And secretly attempt to forever keep them at arm's length

Do not jump the gun, they mumble

But all is cut and dried, I retort

Whoever listens to those who complain

That a conspiracy is installing a light bulb

To deprive them of gracious darkness

But as I reached the seventh cloud of jubilation

They hit me just below the belt by the agonizing whip of discouragement

Now I have a bone to pick with them

But not alone they stand

As if to pour oil on troubled waters, religions interfere

Whether to love or to hate me, they have had so long to decide

But unlike them, I do not claim our mother is circled by Helios

And unlike them, I psychoanalyze before I criticize

And unlike them, I scientifically analyze

The Galilean solar system outside and inside

And unlike them, I proudly defy the Biblical and Copernican principles

They accuse me of opposing the creator

But I believe mine is the true creator

Because mine can explain all that is seen and unseen to the naked eyes

Did he not explain the link between the full moon and the tides?

Just as he explained the four dimensional continuum between space and time

Besides, there are many ways of killing the cat

In the end, we all worship the same God

Only the names differ

For centuries uncountable

We have fought like cats and dogs

But for once since evocreation

Why don't we bury the hatchet

And start on a clean slate

And then you vacuum minded individuals

Will learn to respect me whose mind shines

Radiating as much wisdom as the energy of a thousand Alpha Centauris

I demand attention and respect

I am no Einstein, only better

With the world at my feet

I am the Scientist who single-handedly made the first nuclear reactor.
