Chapter Eleven

I opened my eyes to a blurry vision of blue, blinking a few times to adjust and realise I was staring at the sky. Channing came into my vision where he was hovering over me, a stern look on his face; his lips were pierced together along with his eyes being furrowed.

“Move! I need to get up.” I placed the palm of my hands flat against his chest and pushed him aside. I sat up, only to lie back down on the ground due a sudden shooting of pain through my head, gritting my teeth in the attempt to divert the pain. I squeezed my eyes tightly shut and almost instantly the throbbing was gone, no trace of it, as though it never happened in the first place. I sat up again, this time without difficulty.

“How c-could you fall asleep like that?” Even in his angry state, he was barely audible but I strained my ears to hear. He grunted, and then twisted away, concentrating his glare on one spot of the lake. “I was talking and you fell asleep.”

“No, you don’t understand, I think it was my power,” I replied, forcing him to face me with a vigorous shove.

“Oh yeah, amazing power then, falling asleep is very useful to protect the world.” He rolled his eyes and folded his arms across his chest in emphasis of his frustration. I hadn’t realised how sarcastic he could really be, which I was extremely taken aback by. However, his anger bewildered me.

“No, not that. Will you shut up and listen for a second. This is important.” My sudden outburst caused Channing to jump a little and shuffle away from me in fright.

“G-go on,” he prompted with a look of uncertainty.

“Finally, didn’t you say something about my dreams relating to my power and when I ‘fell asleep’ I had another.” I air-quoted fell asleep, the dream fresh in my mind, twirling around to the area of the forest where The Executors had advanced from in my dream.

“I was going to say that but you were long into your sleep by then,” he corrected me, emphasising on the word was. There was no sign of stuttering in the sentence and without thinking I found myself smiling at that. That’s the old Channing, I thought to myself. “It’s not funny.”

“I’m not laughing, I’m smiling,” I explained as I continuously glanced behind me to the forest, butterflies in my stomach as I had the urge to leave the opening of the forest.

“Are you going to tell me about your dream then?” He asked softly, each time turning to face the area of the forest I did. “Why are you so edgy all of a sudden?

“Channing, I think we should go before…” I trailed off as my eyes wondered upon a dark figure emerging from the edge of the forest. My voice was filled with desperation but evolved into panic.

“Before?” Channing prompted, raising his eye brow.

“T-them…look!” I pointed as two more followed behind the figure. They were all wearing grey cloaks and covering their faces with hoods. Their pace was faster than that in my dream. “Channing, I’m scared.” I grabbed a fistful of his jacket and pulled him towards me.

“Relax Zaviera.” His voice held so much authority and he remained content.

“What? They’re coming towards us and you’re telling me to relax!” I screeched as loud as I could, while I frantically stumbled over trying to put my shoes back on.

“No seriously, just relax. I’ve sorted it out.” His smile grew. With confusion I looked up to the executors who should’ve caught up to us by now thinking about it. My mouth opened so wide when I saw that they were all frozen in the centre of the open space, only a few metres away from us. They were frozen in the most awkward positions; the one at front had his back leg in the air and his arms crossed over, another had his arm almost inches away from the third executors face.
