"So what happens at one of these things" I asked Cody.

He shook his head. "You've never been to a track meet?"

I rolled my eyes. "Why would I ever go to one before this?"

"Fair enough. Basically, we just watch Mason. There's a bunch of events, and we watch the ones Mason participates in."

"So what's first?"

He shrugged. "They'll announce it I'm sure."

I looked at Mason, who was talking to his coach, and chugging down Gatorade.

"Is it good for him to drink all that before he runs" I asked. I know that if I drink too much water before dance, I end up throwing up.

"Yeah."

"What?"

Cody dropped the subject, and I sighed. Things in this family were so mysterious.

"Wait, what's going on now" I asked, as Mason handed his Gatorade to his coach. He strolled to the center of the field.

"They called for his event. Looks like hurdles are first."

I watched as Mason talked to the guy in the center of the field. Pretty soon there were a ton of guys, and I lost Mason.

"What are they doing?"

"Signing in. They have to check who's here."

"This is a complicated process just to jump some hurdles" I huffed.

A girl came through the crowd, making a beeline for Cody.

"Who's that" I asked, and Cody looked in the direction I was looking.

"Haley" he called, jumping up.

She jumped into his arms, and they kissed.

"Get a room" Carson called.

"Don't be jealous" Haley called back.

She uncurled her legs from around Cody's waist and dropped to the floor. She looked at me.

"Who's this" she asked Cody, her voice light. She smiled kindly at me.

"I'm Zoe Baker" I said, standing up. I shook her hand.

"Hello Zoe Baker, I'm Haley Thompson."

I lsmiled. "I've heard a ton about you."

She poked Cody in the abs. "I hope good things?"

I nodded. "He won't shut up about you."

"Not true" Cody whined, and I shot him a teasing smile.

"So Zoe Baker, who exactly are you" Haley asked.

I scooted over and offered her a seat next to Cody, but she shook her head and plopped down on his lap.

"I'm the new addition to the Walker family."

"It's about time they got a girl" she said, throwing her hands in the air. "These boys have no manners. They don't even knock before barging into the bathroom."

"I don't think I've experienced that yet."

"That's how I met Carson."

I laughed. "Sounds like him."
