Epilogue [edited]

One month later..

"I'll meet you at the restaurant okay?" I nodded as Olivia drove off after she had dropped me off at the driveway of Kevin's house. It was my eighteenth birthday today and instead of clubbing we were spending it at a small restaurant with our friends. I wasn't ready to do anything too big. My paranoia had just settled down and doing something too big could trigger it again. I almost had a panic attack the other day and I couldn't risk another one.

I had left my phone and wallet at home after Olivia had collected me and drove me to her house, all the packing for NYU was making me stressed and I tend to leave my things here and there, despite the events I had managed to pass my exams and get accepted into NYU. Now I had to drive myself to the restaurant in the damn snow. I noticed a black BMW parked in the driveway of our house and I frowned, whose was that? I clutched my jacket closer to me protecting me from the cold, why does December have to be so cold?

I opened the house door and heard shuffling coming from the living room, "I accidentally left my phone and wallet so-" I looked up as I entered the living room and my eyes widened and my breath hitched.

Cole.

His hair had grown longer and was tousled and he seemed slightly more muscular, he was dressed in a uniform much like Uncle Kevin's but under his badge read NY on it instead of LA like Uncle Kevin's.  He stared at me wide eyed and I heard footsteps behind me.

"Melissa," Uncle Kevin said surprised, "I thought you'd be at the restaurant for your birthday."

"I-" I couldn't say anything and the memories of me and Cole flooded my mind instantly every tease, every laughter, every argument, every moment and I felt like I couldn't breath so I ran out of the house and heard my name being called behind me.

I started walking away but some one grabbed my arm and turned me around. I was faced with Cole and then I slapped him and he looked shocked, "You. You just left me," I cried as the snow fell over us like a white blanket but it wasn't keeping us warm. It was cold.

"I explained everything in the note," he told me

"You didn't even talk to me! You never asked what I wanted," he looked down, "I didn't want to move on. I don't want to move on and you tried to force me into moving on. I love you Cole don't you realize that?"

"I-"

"You left without talking to me properly. I was waiting to see you after I woke up. I woke up three days later and you weren't there. You ran away, like you always do," his jaw clenched.

"You think it was damn easy just leaving you?!"

"You made it look like it was,"

"Well it wasn't. I fucking hated it. I couldn't sleep properly without you, nothing felt right without you there! It was all so unfamiliar like nothing made sense any more, and that sounds so cliché I know but it's fucking true. I missed you so bad and I still do," I didn't know what to say. He sighed and calmed down. Arguing would get us nowhere.

"Why are you back here?"

"I work at the FBI, after...what happened.... your Uncle put a good word in for me and they called me,"

"Like you always wanted," he nodded, "so you work at the New York base?"

He nodded, "Your uncle set it up for me at the California one but it was full so he moved me to New York," I nodded "How's Olivia?"
