I try to push away from you
and your engulfing tendencies,
but you keep pulling me back with your tidal waves
and I come crashing back into you again.
Because that’s all we are.
Bodies of water
pushing and pulling and fighting
under the moon until we’re
c a l m a g a i n.
You stroke my hair with your words
and I’m dragged into deep waters
into fascinating darkness
into more false promises.
The harder I try to breathe
the harder I drown.
So don’t,
Wait up for me.
Please don’t,
Try to save me.
Just leave me here.
Let me
d r i f t a w a y.
and back to you.
Let me float.
