Straight Marriages Are No Fair
By Eithne Lewis
Did you know that there is a giant debate around all of America about making gay marriage legal? This debate has been going on for years. Even when our great-grandparents were young. I think gay marriage should be legal.
Marriage is about love, not what sex you are or who you're going to marry. If people say everyone is equal then they're lying. They can't justify it. People who like the same sex are people too! Not giving them a right that others have means they aren't seen as an equal. Hence, the phrase, "all men are created equal", is a lie. To me, marriage is like sugar. It's wonderful and sweet. It seems that to many people think gay marriages will corrupt the economy. They think it will leave a sour taste in our next generations mouth.
There shouldn't be laws on love. You can't defeat your heart in a battle on who you're going to love and not love. That's like searching for a way to escape a metal box with no doors or windows or openings. It's like walking blindly in the dark. It's like hearing a din that you can't escape, or smelling a putrid stench that's holding on to the brim of your nose. It's impossible. Imagine if you couldn't marry the person you loved? You would feel helpless knowing that you could not be with the one you loved because of a silly rule on a perishable parchment made by another human like yourself. It disgusts me. Most people seem to be ignorant. They only think of the benefits for themselves, and no one else. They can be happily married and not say a word about it, but as soon as gay people are put in the mix, they just have to protest.
People are like flowers. They all need love and attention, but some may require special love and attention. Did you know almost 20-40% of the population consists of gays, bisexuals, and lesbians? To make things more interesting, that was only between the ages of 18 through 24. Many people have held protests towards laws on gay marriages. Many gay couples get harassed by the public for being improper, uncivilized in a way, for wanting to be eloped.
I'm writing to defend gay marriages. Marriages should not just be for the straight, but for the gay too. If this essay left you wide-eyed with a different view for the better, then I did my job.
Heehee. This was just an essay for school. Anyone wanna tell me their opinion on gay marriages?
