"It's 11 o'clock and I can't get to sleep. After my parents dropped the massive bomb of their divorce on me, my sleep had been suffering. I had two months to decide but that didn't condone their behaviour! God, I sound like the parent! I don't know who I'm going to go to in the end, it's like Sophie's Choice."  Another diary entry began but this time with me in full rant mode, I decided to get dressed because there was no way I could get to sleep now so I may as well go out.

I grabbed my burgundy skinny jeans and slipped them on, I coupled this with a white vest top and a tinted orange butterfly scarf thinking that I should go casual if I am just going out for some fresh air. I just brushed through my dark, wavy hair and put on light make up - mascara and concealer - because I wasn't one of those 'natural beauties' but too much make up and I could easily pass for a hooker.

I was careful to sneak down the stairs knowing that if I woke my mom I would be in the deepest shit, I am acting like I do this all the time. I don't. It's just if I am going to do it, I'm gonna do it right. I am more of a determined person than the rest of my friends, I don't mean to be but I am the one who likes to be in charge, I don't trust them to do anything right! By them I mean Allie and Hannah, Allie is insane and Hannah is the one who is more laid back.

We usually go to the midnight bowling alleys so that was my first bet to bump into them.

"Hey Amanda! What are you doing here?" I swiftly turned at the sound of Allie's soft voice.

"I couldn't get to sleep so I thought coming here might bore me to sleep!" I said sarcastically while moving in for a hug. We sat down on the plastic chairs next to Allie's claimed lane to hear the clickety-clack of blowing balls being fed out from the machine next to us.

"Oh haha. Why can't you sleep?"

"Mom and Dad are getting divorced." I mumbled rather casually, not thinking much of it any more.

"What?!" Allie almost screamed in shock "What are you going to do?"

"I don't know, I was hoping you would help me out!"

"I guess you could.. Or maybe.. How about.. Nope. I got nothing."

I was completely on my own in this, I had no way of getting help, I was utterly torn. We gossiped to get my mind of things but hearing that this guy cheated on this girl and the girl forgave the guy isn't one of the best healing methods. I managed to persuade her to buy me an ice cream but it went straight to my head.

"Do you wanna get some air, you're looking a little pale."

"Yeah, yeah sure. What time is it?"

"1'oclock"

"I better go home then, Mom has an early shift at the hospital today so I don't want to take any chances."

"Sure, I'll see you tomorrow!" We embraced for the second time and we both went our seperate ways.

The hoodie went on and the headphones went in, it was difficult for me not to mime the words as I stared down at the chipped pavement but no one was out so I took that as the 'OK' to mess around. I liked living in the Suburbs, the city was too loud and busy whereas the Suburbs were silent and dreamy.

My house wasn't the biggest in our cul-de-sac but it was the most modern, my bedroom was the icon of the house. The left-most wall was an aquarium contrasting to the right-most wall which was covered in photos of me, my family and my friends. I had a king-sized bed with my favourite Cath Kidston bed covers and fairy lights which dangled from each bed post. To say I liked spending my time in my room, was an understatement. I just laid on my bed for the following 8 hours still not managing to fall to sleep, annoyed at myself for not calming down.

I saw my Dad's SUV and I knew he was there to talk to me so I sighed and walked downstairs.

"Hi baby girl! I wanted to talk to you about the whole custody thing, you ought to know what will be happening if you come to visit me."

"Visit? I was wondering if I could come down for a few months."

"I mean sure! I live in North Carolina now so you'd have to move your stuff but-"

"I will start  packing now, Dad" I put a reassuring hand on my Dad's shoulder, he smiled and got up to go home.

"Love you, Pumpkin."

"Love you too, Dad."

I slumped my back to show him how tired I was and made my way back to my room. I was excited that I was going to live with my Dad but by doing that I had to enrol in a new school which was probable the most daunting thing ever. For the moment, at least, I liked where I was at.
