CHAPTER 5

I rush to the lake from the library when I realise that I am late for training.

"You're late." Lucifer said. He is sitting on the ground leaning against the tree.

"Sorry I was......"

"Let's just start." He said cutting me off.

I sigh.

"Tonight I want to exercise your mind."

I nodded.

He looks weird tonight. He seems tired and weak and his colour is a little off.

Is it because of the mark thing?

"Lucifer, are you okay?"

"I'm fine." He said coldly.

Okay, so clearly he just wants me to mind my own business.

"How far can you reach with your mind?" he asks.

"The farthest I've tried is from here to my house, which is about 200 miles from here."

"That's far enough. Have you tried with more than one person?"

I shook my head.

"You're going to have to try to do it with more than just one. Have you tried using your mind power to brainwash others or create illusions for others?"

"No. I've never get to learn how."

"Looks like we have to start from the beginning. How about your shield? How far or big can you build them?"

"I've only tried building it around me but not more than that."

"You need to remember that not only you have to protect yourself but also other people that you care about! How the hell are you going to do that if you don't even know the basics?!"

"Well that is why I am here for - to learn just that." I half yelled. I have my hands from in fists at both of my sides.

Why is he yelling at me for?

"Let's see how far you can build that shield."

I try to build it around me first then I try to expand it.

"Now see if you can do again what you did yesterday."

I try to do as he says but it was hard.

"I can't."

"You can. Remember your shield is like an extent of your body. You need to gain control of it so that it can easily be a weapon and also shield."

"How can a shield be a weapon?"

"As I've said your shield is like an extent of your body, it's not really something that you made just because you think of it in your mind. It is something visible that if you build it correctly you can actually see it with your naked eyes. That's when you will know that you can do anything with it."

"I don't get it."

"Right now all that you can do is build the invincible shield around you and also in your mind so that you can block from anyone that can control minds. You can only project it out when you are truly in danger just like what you did yesterday. You could actually do more than that."

"How come my grandmother never tells me anything about this?"

"Your grandmother's ability for the power is different than yours. Your power is actually embedded in you while your grandmother's is given to her."

"Uh......?"

I'm getting confused.

"When did you realise that you have powers?"

"My mom said I have it when I was 2."

"I'm sure you realise now that you are different from the others." He said.

Is he going to tell me everything?

"Vyres normally gain their power when they turn 12. For vyres, their powers are given to them like gifts by their parents, so as you can see for most of the vyres here, their powers are the same as their parents."

"So their parents give them their power."

"Yes, the parents will decide which kid they want to give it to."

"So how does that make me different from the others?"

"You are born with your powers. Your parents don't have to pass it to you. They are already in your blood."

"Why is that? Does it have anything to do with the mark?"

He nodded.

"You have the mark too. Does it mean that you are born with your powers?"

He hesitated at first but then he nodded.

"Why do you know so much about what's going on with me but I don't know what's going on with you?"

"Because it's none of your concern."

"Really? Then whatever it is that's going on with me is also none of your concern."

"It is."

"Wha....what?!"

I can't believe him. I can't butt in his business but he can butt in mine.

I shook my head in disbelieve.

You know what, whatever. He is my mentor and I'm just his annoying student.

"So what do you mean when you said that my power is embedded in me?"

"It means that you can use your power beyond what you think you can do. You can do a lot more than what your grandparents or your parents can do."

"I don't think so. You do know that my grandfather and my grandmother are two of the Old ones. That's just impossible from me to surpass them."
