Darkness settled in and Samyaza knew that they needed to stop and rest for the night.  He wondered what might happen if her husband came looking for her. There was no way that he was ever going to let Nabal touch her again. He was her protector now-a role that he was slowly growing to relish. As they walked through the countryside and up the mountain, Shebiaz took every opportunity to grasp his arm and shoulder for support. Several times he they journeyed up the steep mountain their eyes locked as he lifted she put her arms around his neck and broad shoulders to lift her. Her gaze soon became flirtatious, then mesmerizing.

Neither he nor any of his angelic brethren had ever been this close to a woman-it was forbidden. Perhaps this is what made the experience all the more exhilarating. T felt now was something was new and strange, but he liked it.  As they reached a small cleft in the mountain, Shebiaz reached for his hand and this time, she did not go. She stopped and stared into his eyes, prompting him - tempting him. It worked. He leaned forward and placed his hands around her waist and looked down into her eyes and then at her lips. He was nearly two feet taller than Shebiaz - stronger and more fearsome than her in every way, yet he was the one trembling. He paused momentarily when he saw the glare of his shimmering presence in her eyes and upon her face. It seemed to be a cautious reminder, one that he ignored when he put his hand under her chin, lifted her head, closed his eyes and pressed his lips to hers.

His eyes opened as he felt her warm breath upon his face and his nostrils were filled with the sweet odor of her perfume. Behind her in the distance, two angels in the in shining white garments staring at him. The one on the left looked down and began writing into a small white book. The other, wearing a red vest trimmed with gold above his robe stepped forward and continued to stare at Samyaza. It was Lucius. His sullen looked disclosed feelings of betrayal and disappointment.  Samyaza pulled Shebiaz closer and held her tightly. Perhaps he was protecting her. Perhaps he was justifying what he had just done. Shebiaz, unaware of the other angels, wrapped her arms around his shoulders and leaned into his chest. The glow surrounding Samyaza  slowly began to fade until it was gone. Samyaza closed his eyes and looked into the sky. Something had changed, or been switched off inside of him. He felt it - the infrangible barrier between angels and mortals had been breached.

A bright light appeared in the sky above them and a portal began to open. Out of it, twelve large angels emerged and stood in the sky just above them. All of the angels, except for two in the middle, wore shortened robes, helmets, body armor and were armed with large shields and spears. A tall, imposing angel well over ten feet tall stepped out from the group and floated down to the ground ten feet in front of  Samyaza. He was dressed in a long white robe with a thick golden belt around his waist embroidered with black writing. He was clean shaven, with short black hair and blue eyes. The white radiance around him was so bright that it forced Samyaza and Shebiaz to squint their eyes. He looked down upon Samyaza with disdain.

In a loud, deep voice, he voice thundered “And this is the hour angels wish to become men!”

Samyaza stepped away from Shebiaz and quickly fell to one knee and lowered his head.

“I am sorry my lord.” he retorted as Shebiaz tried to hide herself behind him. Although she could neither see nor hear the angels, she sensed that something was wrong.

“Do not speak” Samyaza whispered, still kneeling.

Shebiaz then knelt to the ground.

“Uriel my lord, forgive me” Samyaza shouted.

The other angels floated downward and landed on each each side of Uriel. As he took several steps forward, the other angels moved in unison with him. Shebiaz felt the  same warm presence from when she first encountered Samyaza. She could feel that other angels must have arrived. Fear kept her from looking up to see who they were. Uriel turned his gaze upon Shebiaz briefly, then back upon Samyaza.

“My Guardians have done more than watch” Uriel's voice thundered again.

Trepidation and uneasiness came upon Samyaza. Uriel was the archangel in charge of all the Watchers and Guardians. It was rare that angels of his class spoke with or  associated with those of Samyaza's  rank. Uriel's appearance here was a serious matter. Now Samyaza's had to answer for his actions. He tried to explain.

“My lord, I...”

“Your heart is known to me Samyaza. Speak no more, lest a worse thing come upon thee” Uriel said with a stern look while pointing his finger at Samyaza.

Samyaza lowered his head in shame.

“You wish to to live as mortals men do. This day your petition is granted”

Samyaza looked up in shock. But before he could speak, Uriel, raised his right hand.

“This day, return that which God has given!”

An unseen force lifted Samyaza several feet off of the ground. A bright of light shone from his chest, causing him to let out a loud scream as his legs and arms snapped backwards. It was as if something had been invisibly ripped from his body.

“Return to us your glory!” Uriel shouted and then jerked his right arm backwards.

Samyaza's body convulsed again in the air and he let out another loud scream as something else large and white appeared to be ripped from his body before he fell to the ground and landed on his back.

Exhausted, Samyaza's turned over onto his knees and  lifted his head towards the sky. With a loud gasp, he took in his first breath. Shebiaz stood and ran to where he was kneeling and wrapped her arms around him. She grasped him under his arms to support him as he breathed heavily.

“Slower. It's OK. I'm here” she repeated several times.

He grasped her arm and held it tightly. Her voice and closeness calmed him as his breathing gradually returned to a normal pace. He had never breathed before. Several of  the angels with Uriel stared at him with curiosity.

“It is done” Uriel said before turning and walking away.

All of the other angels followed behind him in unison. Lucius remained with the other angel, who began writing in white in his white book again. He occasionally looked up at Samyaza before closing it and turning to follow Uriel.

“Wait my lord” Samyaza shouted.

Uriel stopped, causing the other angels to stop in unison. None of them turned around.

“My lord, what shall become of me?”

“You are born of two worlds now Samyaza, but a third shall have you” Uriel responded before rising and vanishing away through the still open portal. Each of the other angels vanished away through the portal one by one. The angel who had written in the book, look at Samyaza a final time before leaving through the portal.

“What does he mean?” Samyaza shouted at Lucius, the only remaining angel, who smiled briefly, nodded and then vanished away.

“What just happened?” Shebiaz asked in a troubled tone.

“An end and a beginning.” Samyaza grimly responded.
