Chapter One

Alexa woke up with the sun shining in her eyes. ''Why doesn't anyone shut the curtains?'' Alexa got out from under the covers of her four post bed with a purple canopy reluctantly. In her night gown she stomped over to the curtains, brown hair every which way on her head. Alexa almost shut the curtains but then she saw the morning. how the light glistened off the dew drops that were sitting on top of the blades of grass. London, London, London, how i love you. Alexa loved the mornings in London. Everything was perfect. From her window she could see the sun rise and fall and then moon.

Maybe I should stay in today. Alexa thought to herself. That wouldn't happen. If she did do anything like that then she would feel the wrath of her father, Mercuscio. He thought that everyday that Alexa should go out and do something ‘‘productive’’. Mercuscio’s thought of ‘‘productive’’ actually meant ‘’go out and find a suitor’’. Alexa and her father had many fights about her future. Alexa’s mother, Harriet, took Alexa’s side in many of the quarrels. She thought the same as Alexa, that she should be able to make her own decisions.

There was a knock at the the door. ''Come in.'' One of the house's many maids came in the room with a big brown box in her hands. ''Hello Elizabeth.'' Elizabeth Conley was Alexa's oldest friend of seven years. They became friends when Mercuscio made her mother work for him he also got Elizabeth in the package. They used to play in the garden’s hedge maze chasing each other and playing hide and seek.

‘‘Hello Ms. Beckett. I have your dress here for the day. Your mother and father want to talk to you. They’ll be in the study waiting for you.’’ Elizabeth was saying this all too quickly. Alexa knew something was up.

‘’Oh no. Do you know what exactly what about?’’ Alexa asked.

‘‘Sorry, but I don’t.’’ Elizabeth replied. Elizabeth took the dress out of box and laid it out on the bed. It was a silk, dandelion yellow dress with pale yellow lace as the trim, cuffs, and collar. Stunning. Elizabeth walked over to the walnut amoire and pulled out a corset,

''Do I have to wear that thing. You know I hate it.'' Alexa whined.

''Yes, but sadly you have to.''

Alexa sighed ''Fine.''

Alexa came out of her room in the yellow dress wit matching golden yellow teardrop pearl earrings. Her hair was up in a braided bun thanks to Elizabeth and a hundred hairpins. As Alexa started to walk down the long corridor, she couldn't help but couldn't help but think about things. What does father want to talk to me about? Of course it's not mother's idea to tlak to me, she could never talk father into siding with her. Alexa went down the stairs and turned right and went into the door way to the study.
