"Soo...what's your name?" I asked her and she giggled, her face snapping back into place like a rubber glove; I smiled slightly, knowing that she made the snapping rubber sound somehow, she nodded for me to follow her, so I did.
We travelled through many different sized and coloured tombstones, passing some huge marble mausoleums on our way, until she stopped in front of one that was in amazing condition, shiny and white.
A tingling feeling crept up my spine as I read the gold writing on the tombstone; Kelly Jhurds, born 2nd May 1976, died 3rd May 1994, loving sister and daughter, taken from this earth before her time.
I frowned, looking over at her as she looked down at someone; a man crouched by her grave, laying a bouquet of red roses on her grave. He looked up at me when I got close enough to hear, looking up with mild interest.
"Were you close to her?" I asked cautiously, biting my lip slightly as he smiled lovingly down at the gravestone, a clear picture of Kelly - the ghost next to me - set in an intricate silver photo frame on the grave stone.
"She's the love of my life...how do you know her?" he asked and I smiled, looking at Kelly for advise; she chuckled and a thoughtful expression came to her face, "tell him that I was a friend of the family" she rushed and I repeated to the guy.
"She's a friend of the family. How'd she die, if you don't mind me asking?" I asked him and he sighed, a sad smile on his face as he stood up, his long lime green hair fell in his eyes as he looked down on me, "we were at a beach in California for her birthday and she decided to go cliff diving without a professional; she picked the wrong spot and hit her head on a rock...she died instantly from the blow..." he trailed off, his eyes distant and glassy; I sighed and smiled sadly at him.
"She's looking over you now...I would tell you something, but you probably wouldn't believe me..." I mumbled to myself and he smiled, "try me, Kelly always told me that you have to hear something before you don't believe it" he told me and I raised my eyebrows at him; I don't know if this is the type of thing that I should be telling strangers...or anybody for that matter.
"I died in a car accident with my family...but unlike them, I came back and I was just visiting their graves when...well I saw Kelly" I told him and he stared at me with a small frown on, calculating whether I was telling him the truth.
"She told me that she died and her spirit is stuck on earth...I totally understand if you don't believe me, but I know that it's true, because she's standing right next to you...oh my God, I sound fucking crazy!" I groaned, Kelly bursting into a fit of laughter; I sighed and scowled at her, knowing that she wanted me to tell him that she is here, knowing that she knew how insane I would sound.
"You know kid, I actually believe you; I know I sound like a complete nut job for actually believing you, but I do, because...well, I've never told anyone this before, but you're a stranger so it doesn't really matter, 'cause, well....the night that Kelly died, I had a dream about her, and in the dream, she told me that she wouldn't leave me...but how can you see her?" he asked me and I sighed, rolling my eyes at him.
"I told you before, but I guess I'll go into a little more detail; I was in a car accident about nine months ago with my mom, my dad, my older brother Lance and my little sister Bethany, and basically, they died and so did I, but 'God' gave me a second chance and I came back to life; I died for a mere minute, then I was in a coma for nine months and I woke up from it last week," I told him, taking a deep breath to end my story.
"I got out of the hospital yesterday and my grandma wouldn't let me come here to see my family's graves until I settled in...I just...I don't know why Bethany wasn't spared; she was so young and I hate not having my brother Lance with me. Kelly reminds me a lot of Lance; he's cool and Kelly told me that he's trying to figure out a way to come see me" I told him and he smiled, nodding his head for me to follow him; I did as he wanted me to and Kelly followed along with us.
Kelly jumped through...the guy - I need to learn his name - and she giggled as she walked backwards in front of him, making silly faces, "so what's your name?" he asked and I grinned as good as I could; I'm still grieving for my family and a proper smile is very hard.
