"Why didn't you take me?" I whispered to myself, my heartbeat irregular and spluttering, my longing showing through the tears rolling down my cheeks; my grandmother had dropped me off about an hour ago and I only had a few more minutes here.
Their gravestones were all black, set in a straight row, a small oval with their best pictures was stuck onto each lump of shiny marble; none of them held my families true beauty, or the light in their eyes.
"Why didn't you fucking take me?!" I screamed to the empty cemetery, my voice echoing into the distance as I glared at the sky; where was 'God' when my family needed him?
What did I do to deserve a second chance?
Why hadn't he taken my single life and spared many?
Bethany had barely even experienced life, and then suddenly it's taken away from her?
If you ask me, God's a prick...if there even is a God, which I'm really doubting here!
"You know that you're a lucky kid...most of us don't get spared the way you did" a feminine voice asked from in front of me and I saw a girl leaning on her elbows, against Lance's grave, "do you mind getting off of my brothers gave? That's sort of disrespectful isn't it?" I barked at her.
I know that Lance would have liked her; she had short pink hair that stuck up in spikes, she had very pale skin, bright blue, almost white eyes, and a strange deep cut on her forehead, but it wasn't bleeding; it just looked like a stitched up gash.
She wore a black crop top over a black fishnet long sleeve shirt, ripped black fishnets on her legs with a pleated, plaid hot pink, black, blue and green miniskirt; it wasn't one of those really short miniskirts, but the cool ones you used to see on punk rockers in the 90's, she finished off the look with shiny black Doc Martens, black lipstick and thick black eye liner.
"Life ain't worth living without my family; you don't realise how much you need someone 'til they're gone..." I trailed off, watching her get her arms off of Lance's gravestone, only to sit up on it with her legs crossed; she grinned at me, as if she could tell what I was thinking and loved annoying me.
She's just like Lance!
"You know, your brother told me to tell you that he's gonna beat your ass up when he finds a way out of there" she told me and I frowned, hidden tears building up at the thought of my brother coming back to me.
"But my brother's -" I started but she held her smile, "dead? Yeah, well so am I...and I can't believe it actually works!" she squealed, her eyes flashing completely white with her excitement.
"B-but...how can you be dead; I'm talking to you? Shit, did I die? Oh thank you God! Thank the Lord!" I cried and she jumped off of the grave, only to make a slapping motion across my face; her hand slipped right through my skin and she sit back on the grave again, her eyes moody and impatient with my childishness.
"You are not dead! For God's sake, there's a reason that you can see me! You died! But you're back here because God gave you another chance; you were sent back for a reason, and we need to find out what that reason is!" she cheered, her body flew off of the gravestone and she skipped right through me.
"Whoa! What the fuck was that?! What the fuck are you?! How in the name of Jesus did you just walk through me?!" I cried, my heartbeat erratic and unstable as I watched her dance around my families' gravesones'.
"Is it not obvious? I'm a ghost, one of the undead, whatever you wanna call me; I died and my spirit and or soul is stuck on earth, blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda. Anyway, wanna see something cool?" she asked me and my already bulging eyes grew wider, my mouth agape with pure shock; I really shouldn't believe it....but I think I do.
"Ok sure, do whatever you want, just don't walk through me again, 'cause that's weird" I told her and she grinned wider; her hands flew up to her face and she pulled and tugged at her face until it was strange and distorted.
Her eyeballs were gone, leaving only emotionless black holes, her skin had yellowed, her chin was open wide and crooked, jagged edged teeth grinned at me, her now forked tongue lolled around her mouth.
"Cool huh? It took me a while to get it right, but I've got it down to perfection now; I can do a lot of other stuff too! It's soo cool!" she babbled, her strange new face seeming frightening and harmless at the same time.
