Chapter Seventeen

I woke up in my own bed with Rachel fussing over me.

“Oh good you are awake,” she said. Her face was tight with worry.

            “Where’s Ian?” I croaked.

“He’s out looking for you. He hasn’t been home since last night. Shiloh has gone out to look for him to tell him your home safe.”

“Alex kidnapped me after the movie and took me to my father,” I said.

“Oh my gosh! Are you serious?” she screeched.

“Yeah, but I managed to get away, but Ian doesn’t know about Alex,” I said, trying to sit up.

Rachel pushed me back down on the bed.

“You need to take it easy, Ian will be here soon,” Rachel said. “You know you seem awfully concerned when it comes to Ian. Is there something I should know?”

I probably just turned several different shades of red. I didn’t have to answer because just then Ian burst into the room.

“Out!” he pointed to the door, his eyes locked on Rachel’s.

He hadn’t even looked at me yet. I groaned inwardly. Did he know? Did he see Alex and find out I wasn’t a werewolf? My stomach churned at the thought of Ian thinking I was some kind of freak. Technically I was the only female of my species, doesn’t that count as being a freak?

Rachel huffed and stormed from the room, slamming the door. Ian slowly turned and looked me up and down. I looked away, too embarrassed to meet his gaze. Suddenly I felt the bed dip as he sat on the edge.

“Ella won’t you look at me?” he asked. His voice sounded pained. It made my heart clench in my chest.

His hand gently cupped my face to turn it towards him after I made no move to do so myself. I closed my eyes, fearing what I might see in his eyes.

My eyes flew open when I felt his lips brush against mine, to find him staring at me.

“I thought that might work,” he chuckled.

Tears were pricking at my eyes and I couldn’t stop them, they spilled over. Ian pulled me into his arms and I sobbed into his shoulder. I wasn’t crying because of what had happened to, it was what I had found about myself. I wasn’t even the same species as Ian and it was breaking my heart.

“Shhh, it’s okay now. You are safe and I’m not going to let anything happen to you again!” Ian said into my hair, where he had nuzzled his face.

“It was Alex. He took me to my father and they chained me up but I managed to get away.” I sniffed.

Ian tensed and I moved back from him. His hands were clenched at his sides and I had never seen him so angry before.

“That’s not going to happen anymore,” he said through clenched teeth.

“Oh and my father killed Jack. We have no Alpha,” I said, fresh tears rolled down my cheeks.

“I know that already.” Ian sighed. “I’m actually temporary Alpha until we can hold a meeting,” he said, looking off towards the window.

“Wow,” was all I could think to say. I was stunned. Ian had the prospect of becoming Alpha?

“It’s not the way I would have liked to get the position,” he said, his head dropping forward.

“I know. Ian look my father isn’t going to stop until he gets me back. He has plans for me,” I added, trying to figure out how I was going to explain what I was to Ian.

Ian frowned. “He will not get to you again, I will hunt him and kill him.”

He looked into my eyes and cupped my face in his hands and brushed his lips over mine once more.

“I went crazy when you were gone,” Ian whispered, leaning his forehead against mine.

My heart was pounding in my chest. My feelings for Ian went beyond boyfriend/girlfriend. I wanted him to be my mate. I wanted him forever and no one else. Is this what love felt like?

Someone knocked on the door and I jumped back from Ian. He frowned at me but then let his face go blank.

“Come in,” he said in a steady voice.
