“Oh my god, it’s almost six o’clock. I need to hurry up with this roast,”

“I can’t believe Justin Bieber is coming to our house for dinner!”

I had to suppress the urge to roll my eyes as I sat on the couch in our living room, watching my entire family rush around like chickens with their heads chopped off. They wanted to make sure that everything was pristine for his arrival. It was almost as if the fucking queen of England was coming to dine with us. Mom was making sure that she would impress him with her homemade prized pot roast, my dad was setting out our finest china, and of course Lily was primping herself.

“He’s like every other nineteen year just old kid. I don’t see what the big deal is.” I quickly folded my arms across my chest in an effort to display the irritation that was buzzing inside of me.

Lily quickly scoffed and shook her head, “Zachy, you may be too simple minded to understand this but… a boy that manages to sellout Madison Square Garden in twenty-two minutes, has 41 million twitter followers, and more fans that you could even fathom is NOT normal.”

While I had to admit these were amazing feats, I kept a straight face in order to act as if I wasn’t even the slightest bit impressed.

“You managed to do something right for once, don’t take this for granted.”

It was almost scary how much Lily sounded like our mom when she was scolding me. With a deep breath, I lowered my gaze down towards my lap. Overall, she was right. This was not something that I would often admit. I was lucky to have been noticed amongst the other musicians in this world who strived to make a name for themselves. Suddenly, there was a knocking on the front door that sent my little sister straight up off the couch, her swift movements resembling that of a bottle rocket.  As she slowly turned the door knob, she came face to face with her favorite celebrity and the color seemed to drain from her face instantly.

“J-Justin…”

You could tell that by now Justin was completely used to people being star struck over him, but it was almost amusing to watch my sister stammer over her words.

“Hey, you must be Zach’s little sister?” That same radiant smile that I saw earlier today fixed on his lips.

Before Lily could even form the words, she broke down in tears. There was an instinct inside of me that kicked in as I shot up, rushing over to her side.  Right when I reached her side, she covered her face with her hands and began to sniffle softly.

“I just love you so much!” She blurted out.

I let a sigh of relief escape me as I watched Justin step forward and wrap his arms around my weeping sister. I had never seen Lily this happy—never to the point where she was moved to tears.

“And I love you too, there’s no way I would be able to make it without people like you in the world.”

He sure did have a way with words. I couldn’t help but smile as he soothed my sister and calmed her down almost instantly. How was it possible for someone to be so down to earth? My train of thought was interrupted as I heard my mother’s voice resound from the next room.

“Sweetie! Bring your friend into the dining room, dinner is ready!”

My eyes flitted back towards Justin, “Lily, go see if mom needs any help with getting dinner on the table.”

With a huffy breath, Lily retreated from the room calling out to Justin as she left, “Remember that you owe me a picture later!”

A sheepish smile formed on my lips as Justin walked over to meet my side.

“Sorry ‘bout my family in advance.” I managed to mutter, rubbing my arm in a nervous manner.

“I think they’re amazing, Zach. Hell, you should see the way my family acts in private.”

His words of reassurance made me comfortable as we walked into the dining room, sitting down at the table. As we took our seats, there were jokes and introductions shared between my parents and Justin. From then on, everything seemed to go by in a blur. It was almost as if I had known the guy forever. Right off the back he seemed to be the missing puzzle piece in the dynamic of my household. Of course, there was still the business proposition that seemed to worry me. What if my parents refused? What if I lost my one chance to make something out of myself?

“Wow, this is delicious Mrs. King,” Justin quickly licked his lips as he finished the last of his dinner.

My mother quickly batted her hand and let out a small giggle, “Oh please, just call me Nancy.”

Oh God, even my own mother was starting to experience the ‘Bieber Fever’.

My father cleared his throat in the nick of time before anything more could be said.

“So, Justin… you said earlier that you wanted to discuss something that pertained to Zachary?”

“Yeah, I was actually wondering if you would allow Zach to head to Los Angeles with me. I think he’s an extremely talented singer and he definitely has a chance to make in the industry. It would be a big opportunity for him.”

“You know—he always has had a knack for singing. He gets that from me.” My mom was still stuck in her giddy little phase.

“Well, when would he be going?”

Justin’s lips formed into a straight line as he began to fidget nervously in his seat, “Um, well—I was thinking tomorrow? The sooner the better and I have quick access to plane tickets.”

“Tomorrow!? Don’t you think this is a little bit of a short notice?” My father began to rub his temples, this was a sign that a migraine was coming on.

Justin nodded in agreement, folding his hands on top of the table like the little negotiator he was.

“It is a short notice, but I honestly just came back to Stratford in order to see if Zachary would take the offer of heading out to Los Angeles with me.”

I couldn’t help but blush at this comment. He came out all the way to Canada just to see me? It was flattering to say the least.

“Well, since I admire your dedication and persistence… I can’t really refuse.” My father gave Justin a terse nod, a smile forming on his face.

“My baby is gonna be a star!”

My gaze shifted towards the clock and I realized that it was getting late. Just as this realization hit me, Justin slowly rose from his seat and followed my mother into the kitchen to help with the dishes. A few minutes passed before he returned, standing in front of me.

“So, I helped clean up and took pictures with your sister… I think it’s time for me to leave. Wanna walk out with me?”

I quickly nodded and followed Justin outside, stopping right at the bottom of my stoop.

“Thank you so much for everything, Justin.”

A confused expression formed on his face as he cocked his head to one side, “You earned it, Zachary. There’s nothing to thank me for.”

“Don’t be so fucking humble,” With these words, I slipped my arms around his torso in a warm embrace. It wasn’t long before I felt his arms snake around me, squeezing me tightly. It wasn’t long after that I decided to pull away, figuring the hug had lasted a little longer than it probably should have.

“I’ll see you tomorrow morning at eight?”

“See you then, Zachary. L.A. is going to love you.”

He slowly turned away from me and began to walk towards the car that had pulled up for him, my heart swelling in my chest. California was all that I had ever dreamed about since I was a young boy and now I was going to be on a plane headed there in thirteen hours.
