First Date

“Cause every time we touch, I get this feeling, and every time we kiss, I swear I could fly,” I hummed to myself as I sifted through the clothes in my closet.

I pulled out a sleeveless black and white polka dot dress and eyed it critically.

“Yes.” Ella said, from her perch on my bed.

“You sure?” I held the dress up in front of me.

“Positive. It’s not too fancy, or too casual. Where are you guys going anyway?” Ella asked.

“The movies and then dinner.” I said.

It was a few days after I’d gone to Shane’s house, and he was finally taking me out on a date. I’d called Ella the day after going to his house and told her how he was gonna take me out. So she’d come over to make sure I didn’t ‘dress like a homeless man’, as she put it. Anyway, Shane and I were going to watch Hangover 3, and then get something to eat. It was a typical first date, which I found somewhat comforting.

I pulled the dress off of its hanger and went to the bathroom to change. When I came back out, Ella helped me turn my hair from its average waves into messy beach waves. Then she helped me with my eyeliner and picked out a lip-gloss for me to put on.

“You don’t think it’s too much, right?” I twirled in front of the mirror.

“Not at all. You look amazing. Now put your shoes on.”  Ella tossed my favourite shoes at me and I slipped them on.

I heard the doorbell ring. “I should answer the door before Jake gets to it.” I said.

Ella grabbed a bottle of perfume from my dresser and sprayed it in the air.

“Perfume walk!” she exclaimed and I obediently walked through the mist.

“You’ll let yourself out right?” I said to her, as I looked at myself in the mirror one last time.

“Yeah my mom will be here soon. Hey can I borrow your white lace shirt? I have to go to my cousin’s house tonight.” Ella said.

“Sure, it’s somewhere at the bottom of my closet, want me to find it?” I offered.

“No, you go, have fun.” Ella waved her hand off at me. “I’ll find it.”

“Well thanks for helping me get ready.” I blew her a kiss as I left my room.

“Call me after the date!” she called after me.

I ran down the stairs and opened the door.

 “Hi.” I said breathlessly.

Shane stood at my doorstep wearing a navy blue button up and dark jeans.

“You look amazing.” He cocked his head and looked me over.

I slid the door shut behind me and stepped onto the front porch. “You’re not so bad yourself.”

He grinned and held his hand out to me, leading me to his car.

“So we can watch the new Superman movie, or some weird French horror movie.” Shane said .

We were standing in front of the movie theatre counter, trying to decide on a movie.

“What happened to watching Hangover 3?” I questioned.

“The show started like an hour ago.” Shane said.

“Oh.” I was quiet for a minute, mulling over the available movie options.
