The Golden Truth (A Romance Story)

So this is my... 1st REAL romance novel. I hope you enjoy. Since Nick is being a pushy bum about it, i did the best i could on the first chapter.

Chapter 1-The Emotion


    September 1st, first day of school. I was finally read to start a new year as a new me, with my friend’s help of course. Abergene High school was always the same on the first day. But this year will be different now that I’m a senior.

    I stood at the bus stop with Rachel and her boyfriend, Joey, but for some reason he kept staring at me. I couldn’t help but blush when I caught him. The corner of his mouth would twitch when I did, like he was fighting back a smile. Finally, I had the guts the ask him.

    “Joey, why do you keep staring at me?” I sneered. Rachel choked on her water as she laughed while Joey answered.

    “Well I, um…Your hair is really nice today.” he struggled. I smiled bleakly while nudging him. I caught a small amount of his scent. My temperature rose instantly, so I took a step away.

    “Why thank you. It took me an hour to get my hair perfectly straight.” I brushed my hand through my hair, catching Joey staring me down again. I got suspicious, thinking that maybe it wasn’t my hair. I jumped a little when I felt Rachel’s hand go through my hair as well.

    “It’s really soft too!” she squealed.

    “Yup, my Fructice conditioner.” I smiled.

    “Oh, I wish I was as perfect as you. I’m so… not perfect.” she pouted. Feeling bad, I wrapped my arms around her tightly.

    “But you are perfect!”

    Looking up, I saw Joey was about to hug us. Alert, I yelled negatively. “NO!” He slowly backed away and took a few steps away. I let go of Rachel who giggled.

    “Megan, you don’t have to mean to Joey.”

    “Why not? He’s the one who is being a creeper.” I smirked.

    “I’m not a creeper…” Joey mumbled. I giggled a little when I looked up at him. His hazel eyes looked down to the left at the ground, with a bottom lip hanging out a bit.

    “What was that?” I joked.

    “I’m not a cree-”

    “Oh, the bus is here!” Rachel purposely interrupted. The bus stopped in front of us. All three of us got on, but I slowed down when I saw Derek sitting in the back with September. Immediately, I sat down in an empty seat, pulling down who I thought was Rachel, with me. But it was Joey.

    “Megan what are you doing?” he asked.

    “Sorry, I meant to grab Rachel, I thought she was behind me.” I looked back at Derek again as I spoke, but I could feel Joey still looking at me.

    “She went to go sit next to Chamel. After all, she hasn’t seen her in three months.” Joey explained. I followed my eyes to the front to see Chamel with Rachel, laughing together.

    Chamel was a Junior this year. During the summer, she would go see her dad in Nevada. This year, she came back from being blond to brunette. Her hair was shorter then the last time I saw her too. Just an inch higher then her shoulders; beautiful.

    I slouched back in my seat as I sighed. It’s not that I hate Joey, he was one of my best friends. But ever since the rumors last year at the end of school about him liking someone else, I can’t help but despise the thought of him cheating on my long life friend. Rachel was like a sister that I never had. If Joey were to break her heart, I’d break his neck.

    “Hey Megan, I have a question.” Joey startled me with his sudden voice. I glanced up at him to see that his eyes finally led to the front.

    “What is it?” I asked.

    “Well, I feel like Rachel has been ignoring me, or… she has a grudge against me.” I watched has he twirled his thumbs around one another as his hands were folded together. Sitting up, I wondered what happened.

    “What do you mean? Rachel doesn’t have a grudge against you.”

    “Well, last week, I asked if she wanted to go out to dinner before school started, but she refused. She usually doesn’t refuse, since we don’t get out much together anyways. Then just yesterday, I went over to her house, but her mom said that she was busy and was out with someone else. Do you know what’s wrong with her?” his eyes led to me, but this time, with a sudden sadness in them. My heart sank when I saw this.

    Now I realize that Joey is truly in love with Rachel. He would do anything for her. So I wondered now, what would happen if it was Rachel cheating on Joey. I’m usually the person he comes to talk to if Rachel and him fights. But would I be able to handle this much emotion?

    “Well, I’ll ask her at lunch. Okay?” I placed my hand on his to comfort him. He showed me a fake smile and gave a slight nod. I smiled as the bus approached the school grounds.
