I came around slowly, but didn’t stir. Whatever I was curled on was warm but not exactly comfortable. Mumbles above me became clearer and clearer and I listened into what was being said.

“I’m so sorry Zaphira, I’m so sorry. I was stupid, unfeeling. I was an insensitive jerk. Why am I saying was? I haven’t changed. I want to though, for you. I’d do anything for you. I was just so…angry and hurt that you wanted to post-pone me marking you. How could I have been so blind. So selfish! I’m your mate, I should do anything you ask of me. Instead I pushed you and pushed you until you ran from me. I don’t know why… My wolf was ecstatic to have finally found you. I was getting worried that I’d never have a mate. I look at you and see how lucky I am. You know, you’re not what I pictured as my dream girl. No, definitely not. You’re so much better than that. I still can’t believe that you’re mine-“

“I am not yours.” I cracked open my eyes and yawned. I felt rejuvenated and healed. Currently, the top half of me was curled up on Senan’s lap. I sat up.

“You’re awake. How are you feeling?”

I thought about it for a minute. “Pretty good, actually. But I’m starving!”

He smiled, “Alright, lets go get some of that delicious smelling food from the party then.”

Party? What party? The question must have showed on my face because Senan continued.

“The party for celebrating the new alphas, including you and me.”

“Oh yeah, I forgot about that.” I jumped up and almost immediately fell back down again. “What the-“

I was wearing a boned black dress that stopped halfway down my thighs and platform black pumps with little ankle straps. I glared accusingly at my mate.

“Why and how am I dressed?!”

He backed away hands raised in an ‘I surrender’ gesture. “Calm down it wasn’t me! Alli came by while you were asleep, shooed me away, dressed you up, called me back over and left with her mate.” I relaxed. That sounded like something she’d do to me.

“I believe you. Now can we please get food before I eat you?” He smirked and opened his mouth, no doubt to say something perverted, but I beat him to it. “Don’t you dare say anything. Now move!”

We were only a few minutes away from the clearing and I stumbled several times on the uneven ground. When we arrived I pulled away from Senan and dived for the food table. I scoffed a cheeseburger, a Hawaiian pizza, some mashed potato and a chunk of chocolate fudge cake before I was satisfied.

I found my parents in the crowd and hugged them both.

“Well done darling, you’ll make a great leader.” Said my dad. I beamed at his praise. We stood around chatting and I enjoyed the feeling of accomplishment that had settled in the pit of my stomach.

“Incoming.” Warned my mom and I glanced in the direction she was looking. Instantly I was mowed down by the most adorable five year old in the world. He was golden curly locks and a cheeky, toothy smile. He was angelic. He was also my cousin, Ciaran.

“Zaphy! You’re the leader now, aren’t you? You’re gonna be the best! Cause you’re the best cousin in the world!” His grin stretched as wide as it would go. I smiled indulgently back at him. His poor mother had now joined our group and tried to give a reprimanding glare at him, but his attention was focused on me.

“Did you run off on your mom again?” I asked. He ducked his head and shook it. I sighed. “Hey Aunt Susan, how’s it going?”

“Good, alpha.” My jaw dropped.
