Darkend Hope

Chapter 1



    Julia’s hand twitched like a coffee addict as she held her machete. Blood dripped down her knuckles with the melted snow flakes that landed on her and Nick. They stopped at the entrance of  Lourdes Hospital. Julia was here when she was eight years old to get a shot for when she was sick. She remembered all the expensive equipment they had. Compared to anywhere else in New York, Binghamton’s hospital was the best in medicine and their equipment.

    Nick made sure the lock on the gate that surrounded the building was secure, then joined Julia up at the entrance. Amazingly, the sliding doors still opened as it sensed their presence. Julia stayed on guard, knowing that the outside wasn’t the only place with Cadaverous.

    “Julia, what floor would the equipment be on?” Nick whispered.

    “This one. The tools we need are considered Emergency Equipment. Stay on your toes though, this place could be infested.” She walked over to the receptionist’s desk and looked at the files that was left out. Nick found a sign that showed him where the Emergency rooms would be. When he showed Julia, she found what rooms each tool was in.

    “How much time do we have left?” he asked.

    “Only forty-six. We have to hurry if we’re going to make it back in time.”

    They began to ran down the hallway. Nick took room 13A as Julia took room 18B. Everything was going great for the past five minutes as they quickly gathered their supplies. There was no Cadaverous in sight, and if their was, it seemed as if someone had already killed them. What disturbed Julia though, was that they weren’t killed not even an hour ago. Most likely just before they got there.

    Nick had gotten all the supplies that he could carry. That’s when he met up with Julia at the end of the hall who just entered the last door. He said he would wait outside the door to keep an eye out. Julia shut the door behind her, walking over towards the bed.

    The closer she got, the stranger the air felt. It felt like a live presence was close to her. Julia slowed her pace and peered over the bed to see who was on the other side. Shutters were heard, from a girl most likely.

    “Hello?” Julia whispered.

    The girl jolted and scooted closer to the wall, afraid that Julia might’ve been  one of the Cadaverous.
   
    “Who are you? Stay away from me!” she gasped.

    “No no no no, it’s alright, I’m a human. My name is Julia and I’m here to gather supplies.” Julia sincerely said. The child seemed to have calmed down as she stood up. Julia was able to see her full figure and why she was shaking.

    The girl looked about the age of fourteen. She wore torn gym shorts with running shorts and a thin tank top that was covered in blood. Her hair was medium, brown, and straight. With brown eyes that had a mix of green around the pupil. She looked like she hadn’t eaten in days.

    Julia quickly grabbed the thermometer from the counter, talking to her.

    “What is your name?”

    “Addy.” the girl said. Addy followed Julia out of the room. Nick noticed, but didn’t say anything.

    “Nick, we have to hurry. We only have twenty-nine minutes left.” Julia rushed. All three of them began to run down the hall and towards the front door. As the double-doors opened, Addy pulled something out from her chest and we heard a loud popping sound. Julia noticed that Addy had pulled out a gun and began shooting at the Cadaverous grabbing at the fence.

    “Where are you going?” She quickly asked, still shooting.

    “It’s a safe house just up north. Its from the old Sunshine Inn  Hotel.” Julia huffed as she ran. Addy knew exactly where, and led the way, clearing the path. But Nick had taken a liking to the teenager already, when he saw how athletic she was.
