SIDE STORY ONE

01.

2nd year at TaeDo High.

Next year would be the last year...

Then...

He would be able to get out of here and leave.

Dribble...dribble...dribble...dribble...shoot...swish...

Basketball. It was the only thing he hated and loved at the same time. It was just a game...and yet...it was more than just a game. More...than just a silly game.

--

"Yonggie...here, hold this."

DaeYong held up the oversized ball in his hands. He stared at it curiously. Why was this ball orange and why did it have black stripes? How weird...

"What's this?" Five-year-old DaeYong asked, staring at his brother. They weren't really brothers, but they were raised up together so close that they considered each other blood.

"It's called a basketball," JungHoon said as he moved the bucket a little further away.

"What do you do with it?"

"You throw it in here," JungHoon said, taking the ball with his small hands. He lifted it up barely above his head and threw the ball.

It bounced up and down the driveway, away from the bucket. JungHoon frowned as he ran to pick the ball up.

"What happened?" DaeYong asked, staring curiously.

"Nothing..." JungHoon muttered, handing him the ball. "You try it."

DaeYong frowned. What was the point of throwing a ball in the bucket for? What was so fun about that? But he did what his brother told him to do.

He lifted the ball over his heads and aimed with all his might towards the bucket.

...

It went in and bounced a few times before settling.

JungHoon stared at DaeYong, shocked. "Wow hyung..."

"What?" DaeYong asked frowning.

"Appa said it was hard at first without practice, but how come you could make it on your first try?" JungHoon asked, looking at DaeYong.

DaeYong shrugged. "I don't see what's so special..."

JungHoon ran to the bucket and grabbed the ball. "When I grow up, I'm going to become a basketball player."

"Why?"

"Because I like it," JungHoon said smiling widely. "I'm going to play like the people on TV. And you know what Yonggie?"

"What?"

"You're going to play with me," JungHoon said as he aimed again. This time, the ball went into the bucket perfectly.

"I am?"

"Yup!" he said. "We'll always be together that way!"

"Oh..."

"Here, you try again. We both have to get good!"

JungHoon threw the ball at DaeYong, but he didn't catch it. Instead, it knocked him over and bounced off his little head.

DaeYong looked at the ball which was rolling away from him. The pain from his head grew until...

"WAHHHHHHHHHHHHH..." he cried out as big beads of tears came out from his eyes.

"HYUNG!"

"WAHHHHHH...I HATE IT! I HATE IT! I HATE IT!"

"UMMA! HYUNG'S CRYING!" JungHoon yelled, disappearing into the house.

DaeYong sniffed when the pain slowly fade. He stared at the ball with anger. It was that which had caused him the pain. It was that stupid ball...

...
......
...

A week later...

"Let's play basketball Yonggie!" JungHoon said happily.

DaeYong snapped his head up. Play what? Basketball? That horrible ball that hit him last time?! Why would JungHoon want to play something like that?!

"When we grow up, we're going to play on Seoul's basketball team! Isn't that great? I can't wait for us to be together then. Even if we were separated, we can always meet up again with basketball!" JungHoon said smiling widely.

DaeYong frowned. Basketball? Why basketball?

But he kept quiet...because he saw how much JungHoon loved it. Even though he didn't have a good impression of basketball...he knew that he had to learn it...learn how to play it...and learn how to be one of the best with JungHoon.

--

Seo DaeYong bounced the ball again and then aimed and shot towards the hoop.

Swish~

After all these years...he made sure he was the best at basketball. He made sure he was at the top. He made sure that he was going to win.

Because then...he would see his brother again.

JungHoon...I'm up here already...all I am doing...is waiting for you.

A/N: I'm not sure if i was clear on this, but i'll summarize a lil background info. I edited Part 1 to fit this sidestory, so if the facts seem a little off its because i changed it in the newer version. the changes aren't huge, but its just the little parts that connect.

Seo DaeYong and Jin (JungHoon) were best friends or brothers when they were young. Jin's parents died in a car crash (if i remember correctly) and got sent to the orphanage. DaeYong's mom, who was best friends with Jin's mom, ran off with another guy, so they couldn't exactly keep in touch. DaeYong is NOT an orphan
