CHAPTER 8
KAI'S POV
There was complete silence. Again jermaine repeated the process; ringing the bell once and knocking twice .. There was not a single sound! what the fuck was going on? Why wasn't anyone answering the door? Gazing over at jermaine I could see confusion over take his face. We waited for the longest five minutes of my life before I realised no-one was going to answer the door
'maybe he didn't bring her here' jaymi wondered aloud
I panicked for a single second and in that time I had smashed the door down screaming in frustration 'MAYA! MUM!'
The others gasped at my sudden movement and outburst but were gob smacked at the sight before us .. The house was beautiful with tasteful furniture and the cream coloured walls were a pleasantly warm touch to the room. Although the basic look of the room was calm and serene, it did not make up for the gruesome sight we were met with. A woman lay still, dead, her garments soaked with her own blood. There were three gaping holes in her chest. The crimson blotches stained the cream carpet turning it an ugly shade of maroon/brown. Clearly this was a planned attack! I looked over towards jaymi and jermaine, they were exchanging a knowing look ... what did they know that I didn't?
'Kai ..' Jaymi started to speak but I interrupted
'What's going on? You two haven't told me something ..' I glared daggers at them both
'We were taken off the Bennet mission' jermaine whispered the words slowly so perhaps I wouldn't hear, but I caught them anyway
'WHAT?' I yelled at them, my anger rising by the second 'and you didn't think it was important enough to tell me!?'
'We knew you'd be like this' jaymi tried soothing me. It was a futile attempt to calm me 'we knew you'd want to get maya back .. So we decided it was better not to tell you. If you thought retrieving maya was a mission you would work harder ..'
'you .. you .. selfish bastards!' I shouted at them 'I would've wanted to save her anyway! how could you?! mum would never had allowed that!' By this time angry tears were slipping down my face
'Kai please try to understand the predicament we were and are still in .. ' Jermaine stated as calmly as possible
'Predicament yehh? Here's another predicament! FUCK YOU! I'll get maya back myself!' I snapped in pure rage before rushing around the entire house looking for the girl I called my mother
JAYMI'S POV
I was completely taken aback by kai's hurtful words towards jermaine and I. What could I possibly do? I couldn't calm him as maya could .. I was nothing to him, a nobody, which pained me even more because I thought of him as my little brother. Even if they're really annoying sometimes, they're always my family and I have to watch out for them! Sparing one glance to jermaine, I followed kai's example, hoping that maya was in the house!
'Jaymi' jermaine called my name in a quiet voice
'hmm?' I asked turning to face him again
'Be careful jayjay' his eyes rose from the screen of his BlackBerry to meet my gaze, he smiled 'keep kai safe .. If you find maya then leave ok? Just leave without me'
'WHAT!?' I hissed 'I won't leave you jermaine! We're practically family! I REFUSE TO LEAVE YOU BEHIND!' By this time I was screaming the words
'Jermaine' a small voice cried 'please don't leave cos of me .. I'm sorry .. We need you'
I snapped my head around to see a defeated kai sitting on the stairs and immediately agreed 'kai's right jermaine! We can't leave you here'
'WELL DO EITHER OF YOU KNOW HOW TO DIFFUSE A BOMB!' He snapped as our eyes widened 'I thought so ... there's a bomb in the house and I need to find it before it explodes. So yehh. Find maya and leave'
Tears threatened to spill from my eyes and I tried to force them back but they trailed down my face anyway 'please jermaine .. please come with us .. forget the bomb' I croaked out 'I don't think anyone's in the house anyway .. please'
'There isn't ..' Kai finally spoke up
'What?' We asked simultaneously
'There's no-one here .. Its empty aside from us' he replied quietly, trying to hide his obvious pain from us 'the only weird thing is that Bennet's clock in his room is a little too loud. Atleast I think its his room. Its the only one that looks lived in'
'See jerry there's no need for you to stay here' I tried again, already knowing the reply he would give
