Falling in Love With the Ice Cream Girl
Chapter 1

My life officially sucks. I know that we aren't supposed to use that word because it shows a lack of intelligence and vocabulary is important and blah, blah, blah but at some point I realized that that is what it has come to. Pathetic, right? I have almost everything I need, but nothing I want. I know that sounds greedy and I guess it is since I at least have a home, but I'm a teenager what can I say? I have food, a house, and a best friend. But... I don't know... things are always really screwed up in my life. I'll want something to go one way and it ends up all turned around! Someone up there has it in for me.

For example I had this whole day planned out! I was going to go to the mall with my best friend (since ever) and we were going to hang out and shop with her birthday money and my paycheck and maybe catch a movie, because Fridays are the one day (besides weekends) that I don't have to work in the ice cream machine.

See, the Ice Cream machine is exactly what it sounds like. It's one of those little boxes that you put money into and then you can use the lever and squirt out whatever flavor you want. But what you probably didn't know is that there is a person inside working it so that you can eat your tasty little ice creams while they (or in this case, I) make more. That is my job. It's the only one that I could find when my mom made me get a job a month or so ago. Lets just say that I HATE ice cream now.

So anyway, it's the only day I didn't have to do that and what do I get stuck doing instead?

Babysitting. I get talked into babysitting my younger sister who thinks she knows everything at the age of 10 instead of having fun at the mall, with my best friend, Elvie. As if that isn't not fair enough yet, I also have mounds of homework and no connection to the outside world because my mom took my phone for no apparent reason and she also disconnected the house line. Its one of her newest yoga vibe things. Personally I think that it's all crap but whatever... it's not like my opinion matters.

So anyway, I am a sophomore and Elvie is a freshman. I just turned 16 but instead of a car I got a motorized scooter, because as my mom brought up, "You always wanted one when you were Katie's age!" Katie is my sister name by the way and mine is Lochlynn, pronounced (Lock-Lin). While that was sweet of my mother... it was also a little "back to 2005" if you know what I mean...

So, I was just sitting at home on my off day with no connection to the rest of humanity when out of no where Elvie bursts through the front door.

"OMG!! You will never guess what I just heard!" She said cell phone in hand in a very Elvieish way.

"Probably not,'' I laughed, "What?"

"There is a new guy at school and he is a sophomore just like someone else I know!" She said, "Nudge, nudge, wink, wink."

Elvie loves to play matchmaker and she has officially made me her priority over all else. She always has her eye out for someone that would "suit me". I'm not the prettiest thing out there (but Elvie will argue otherwise) but she "just knows" that prince charming will show up someday and I'll just know its him. She says that I'm bound to meet him in an unexpected place or something like that. All I can say is I hope so.

I am short (which is good for the ice cream machine), about 5'4 with reddish, brownih, goldish hair and brown eyes. My face is also dotted with freckles that you don't really notice unless you look. I am slim but not freakishly so. Elvie is really pretty, too in my opinion with her blue eyes and black overgrown pixie hair.

"Yay..." My voice dripped with monotone, but Elvie didn't really notice because she just kept rambling.

"Yah! Its amazing because from what I hear he I just your type! Tall, brown hair, green eyes, and he's good at math! He completes you, because no offense, Lochy...but you really suck at math..."

"How could you possibly know that he's good at math El?? You haven't even met him yet! And who told you all of this anywyas?"

"Ugh! I have my connections and you would too if your mom stopped being such a psychopath about her meditation and stuff! You know I love her Lochy, she I my other mother but, really? No phone?!"

"Yah, yah, no phone. Hey I have math homework can you help?" I asked getting exasperated with the whole thing.

"Sure! ...but hey maybe it will be that new boy helping you sometime soon," she said with a wink.

I'm not sure why but for the rest of the night I couldn't help but to wonder what in the world that new boys name was in the first place.
