Chapter 1 - The New Girl

Remus' POV

The sweltering heat caused sweat to drip down my forehead and onto the hard concrete of the platforms. My dirty-blonde hair was stuck to my pale face, and my rich, hazel eyes peered round expectantly, searching for my friends. It took a lot of effort to drag my trunk through Kings Cross station, my long, weak arms stretched as I hauled my stuff through the final platform. My pet owl, Brian, sat patiently in his ornate cage, on top of my trunk, as I stumbled over to the wall between platform 9 and platform 10.

"Be good Remus!" My Mum gushed, kissing me on the forehead, I laughed happily at the comment.

"When aren't I?" I smartly replied, before turning to my father.

"Have a good year, Son." My Dad said formally, shaking my hand.

"Will do, Dad." I grinned at him, before pushing my messy hair out of my eyes, and running through the wall, to platform 9 and 3/4. The glorious sight of the gleaming red Hogwarts Express greeted me, steam billowing out the top. Hogwarts students milled round on the platform, all dressed in their uniform, their cloaks slung over one arm. The bronzed faces of young witches and wizards all looked round the area, surveying other students, and searching for their friends.

"Moony!" I span round to see my three best friends calling me over to them.

"Padfoot! Wormtail! Prongs!" I shouted, running over to them, as fast as my heavy stuff would let me.

I was crushed in a massive hug, and analysed each of them.

James Potter, AKA Prongs, stood closest to me, his dark hair framed his pale face, and his large, round glasses swamped his brown eyes. James was the prankster of the group, and was always getting into trouble with his closest friend Sirius. It was a known fact that he was dreadfuly in love with a girl named Lily Evans, and was always trying to win her over.

Sirius Black, AKA Padfoot, stood opposite me. His chocolate coloured hair hung in spirals round his handsome face, his deep blue eyes looked mischeviously over my shoulder, at a group of girls in the same year as us. Sirius was the lothario of the group, and was always with a different girl everyweek, because for some reason, they all seemed to find him irresistable.

And last, and definately least, there was Peter Pettigrew, AKA Wormtail. Peter was standing worriedly looking up at all of us, he was very small, and very...odd. His blond hair stuck crazily to his head, and his apple green eyes were always darting about nervously. He was the quietest one of the group, and reminded me alot of a rat.

And let me properly introduce myself. My name is Remus Lupin, AKA Moony. I am the tallest one of the group, as well as the smartest. I always ended up telling the others what not to do, and suprisingly am not a prefect. There is never a moment when I am without a book in my hand.

The four of us together make The Marauders.

"So how was your Summer, Moony?" James asked, as we trudged towards the train.

"It was Okay, I guess. I did find an amazing book on..." I sensed that James was losing interest, as I had just seen Lily Evans across the other side of the platform.

"She will be mine." He said determinedly, as we clambered onto the train.

"You keep telling yourself that." I muttered, hauling open the door to an empty carriage.

Fifteen minutes later and the train started to pull along out of the station.

"So how many girls have you dumped this holiday, Padfoot?" I asked Sirius, dissaprovingly.

"Oh, only Six." He smirked at us before rumaging around in his bag.

"Yeah, sure you have." I muttered to myself, but obviously a bit too loud as Sirius heard me.

"Just 'cos no girl's ever been interested in you." He muttered darkly. I glared at him before pulling a book out of my pocket.

It was true though. No girl had ever been interested in me. They all seem to like the brave and dashing James and Sirius, not the quiet bookworm known as me. But to be honest, I'd never really been interested in any girls either.

"Oh look, big suprise, Moony is reading." James said sarcastically.

"Shut it Prongs. Don't make me tell Evans." I joked. 'That shut him up.' I thought as I turned back to my book. It didn't really bother me, the fact that we were always sparring, it was just banter. Even though it was mostly true, we each knew that it was a joke, so we just got on with it.
