In response, the wolf growled and leapt toward the other wolf in an intercepting attack.  The woman screamed out her horror as she attempted to dodge the first wolf’s attack.

It noticed how, in that split second instant, with both wolves still lunging through the air, the woman’s eyes fell on its own; and despite how she crouched to one side and threw herself adeptly to her left, her eyes never left its own eyes.

In her eyes it sensed recognition; as if she, too detected a similar pack familiarity with it.

But that infinite lasting split second was actually over very quickly.

Its counter attack managed to intercept the other wolf’s attack in mid leap.  It hadn't been a perfect hit, but its front paws caught the other’s hind ones enough to spin it off track from the intended target.

That, combined with the last second adept dodge of the woman, saved the woman from being touched at all.

Both wolves hit the ground and rolled.

Both came up, teeth bared, growling directly at one another.
