But I'm Not The Princess

"What? You want me to tell Jason your idea? That's 10 times more embarrasing than me stealing his food and getting him to buy me another burger!" I retorted stubbornly.

Shelley rolled her eyes, "duh, of course not! I'm not that stupid! You just ask him questions that tell you whether or not he likes you, coz that’s the whole point of you making this decision right?”

I nodded. YEAH! That would work! If Jason didn’t like me, then there’s no point of me making any effort into this stupid plan!

***

After last night’s discussion with Shelley, we decided that I had to ask Jason today and make the decision before tomorrow. So here I was, in front of the boys’ lockers, holding a puff in my hand. The chilly wind was piercing into my skin, making me shiver. I took off my jumper and wrapped it around the puff, which just made me have even more goosebumps and shiver even more – my whole body was shaking. Suddenly, someone tapped my shoulder and I turned around.

“Hi Jason!” I waved at him enthusiastically. I don’t know why but everytime I see him, all my laziness would disappear.

“Hiya Puff girl,” he grinned, “why aren’t you wearing your jumper? It’s freezing!” I unwrapped my jumper and gave him the warm puff I baked just then. He frowned, and took off his jacket wrapping it over my shoulder and rubbed my arms. “Don’t be stupid Puff girl, you’re shivering and still trying to keep the puff warm? And now your jumper is full of crumps!” he shook his head at me disapprovingly, crease lines forming on his forehead. How does he manage to look so perfect even in that expression? God, he must be freezing too!

“Jason, I uh...” I started, “I have something to ask you...um...I don’t- I don’t really know how to say this,” I laughed nervously.

A small grin formed on the edge of Jason’s lips, “Good, coz I have somewhere I have to take you, you can tell me then.”

“Where?” I asked curiously.

“You’ll have to wait and see, just wait for me at the parking lot and we’ll go afterschool okay?” Jason put a hand on my shoulder and I nodded.

Then a random girl came and pulled his hand away from my shoulder and tugged at his hand, grasping it like her life depended on it. Jason sighed but didn’t do anything about her, which was a pain to watch really. Her face was covered in thick powder, it made her face look hardened I wonder if I could scratch it off. “Who’s this Jason?” she glared daggers at me, clearly not asking for my name.

“Hi, I’m Liz,” I greeted her politely.

She made a disgusted expression and rolled her eyes, “Yuk, let’s go Jason.”

I saw a flash moment of Jason’s face with hatred, but he quickly recomposed his expression and grinned at me, “cya later then Puff girl!” I smiled back and watched him walk off with the random girl who was literally clinged onto his body. This was going to be harder than I thought.

 ***

I was now standing on the top of a moutain Jason brought me to, looking down at the lights and cities. It was really quiet and peaceful up here, but you could see the busy traffic and sparkling lights in the cities. It was the sort of once-in-a-lifetime-experience you ever wanted, yeah, it was that overwhelming.

“Sick of it yet?” Jason laughed, “you’ve been looking for the past hour!”

“You can’t blame me that this is so amazingly beautiful!” I pointed out and grinned at him.

“You haven’t seen the best part yet, before that comes, let’s go get some food shall we?”

“Oh yeah, never forget about the food!” I giggled which earned him a chuckle.

“This place has the best resturant, which was part of the reason I brought you here, have a look yourself!” he gestured for me to see the signboard in front of the resturant.

The most you can spend in this shop is $30!

“30 dollars? You mean I can get 50 meals and it would still be30 dollars?” I widened my eyes.

“That’s right, and the food are not from random rubbish bins,” he joked, “well? Go on then, get yourself 50 meals, it’s on me!”

I rolled my eyes, this boy really knew how to make me laugh.

I ended up getting 5 boxes of fish and chips, hoping it wasn’t too much, since I didn’t know how ‘too much’ meant to him, since he only got a steak burger and a salad. Well, and of course 5 boxes wasn’t ‘too much’ for me, it was just enough to stop my stomach from growling.
