Poverty has taken hold of the world with iron hands,
and has spread it's dark shadow over many lands-
Poverty has weighed down the world like an iron chain,
and scores of people are suffering and dying in pain-
Poverty has slain many of the world with an iron blade,
and with the blood of thousands the price is being paid-
Every three seconds a child dies,
and up in heaven an angel cries-
Every three seconds another goes to the grave,
and yet it comes to wonder how many the world could save-
Every three seconds is another life lost,
and more bloo given to pay Poverty's cost-
Thousands live in hunger on the streets,
and time is ticking away with every heart that beats-
Thousands are sick due to unsafe water,
and these illnesses are taking more souls to the slaughter-
Thousands live without any home at all,
and on the streets are left shivering and small-
Thin and frail with bones sticking out,
and no one caring when they're about-
Thin and frail clothed only in dirty rags,
and no one sees them as their weary shoulders sag-
Thin and frail with pleading, begging faces,
and no one shows them any graces-
People that live from day to day,
and homeless because the price they couldn't pay-
People who suffer sunrise to sundown,
and living every day without a single frown-
People that are dying in numbers too high to count,
and more that are suffering without a single pout-
This is what Poverty looks like today,
and this is how the world is letting it stay-
This is what Poverty has cost,
and these are the lives the world has allowed to be lost-
This is what Poverty is doing every year,
and this is how the world is living in fear-
