~~~~~ONE SHOT~~~~~~
There always was that one secret that Matt had never told anyone. That one deep secret that he couldn't tell anyone for fear of loosing everything he had put his whole supernatural life for. The one thing he never told Ryan, Harmony, or even Skye.
Well, he might have hinted at it to Skye, but he knew she wasn't really paying attention at the time.
Just the thought of the unmentionable made Matt smile. His heart immediately flooded with happiness and love and his stomach packed itself with the most beautiful butterflies ever. That is, until he thought about the end.
You see, Matt's secret wasn't really a secret. It was a memory; one of the greatest memories Matt has ever had, but at the same time it was the worst. It was a memory that woke him up to the world. A memory that helped him see the beauty in people, that showed him for the first time what true love was like-what it felt like, how breathtakingly beautiful it was, and especially, how it should always be appreciated and kept safe.
That amazing memory from 3 years ago all started with a name that floated it's way on the wind and sounded like the most wondrous of melodies.
Cassiel Morgan.
*Matt's POV May of 2008*
Matt sat in the center of the park, thinking about all he'd done recently. Being the Beta of a very large and respected pack of werewolves in New York made him a very busy guy. Just the other day the Alpha, Ryan, had had him rearranging all of the ubiquitous files in his office and putting them into the computer for safe keeping. He wished Ryan would just make Danny, the third in command, do it. But it was like Ryan always wanted to keep Matt busy and away from all those distracting female wolves. Heck, Ryan probably wanted all the girls to himself, the stinking player he is.
And then of course, Matt had the Legion to worry about. The new leader, Samuel Walters, had been on his case trying to get him to scout out some old apartment in an area by where he used to live...something about checking on his kids or some other nonsense. But everyone in the entire Legion knows that you never go back for family and friends. So the likelihood of Mr. Walters getting people to actually check the place out was rare.
Matt sighed and ran a hand through his slightly shaggy black hair. Man, his life is really starting to hit the crapper. Oh well, at least he's able to stop for a moment and enjoy this very unusually nice May day in the park.
The park itself was pretty busy this morning. Birds chirped loud and demanding from their place in the trees that just started blooming while a lawn mower was growling in the distance, warning the grass of it's upcoming demise. Every few moments the low hum of an airplane hit his ears as well as the honking of horns from the busy New York streets down the road.
The sun was just starting to warm the air and Matt took a calm, deep breath, letting the smell of flowers and freshly cut grass wash over him. At that same time the chatter of people also in the park rang through his ears.
It was overall a beautiful day, but it was too bad Matt wouldn't be able to enjoy it too much. He had a weekly pack meeting that Ryan had made mandatory in about an hour, and it was at least a 20 minute run back.
Matt scowled at the ground he was sitting above on the bench as if the little clump blow was the reason his life was starting to get blown to shits. Stupid, tiny, mediocre grass got to sit there and enjoy it's day-
Something hit Matt in the back of the head, catching him by surprise. He didn't flinch, just got immensely aggravated that someone or something had the guts to interrupt his self-pity party.
