--Chance's POV--

"The love that lasts the longest is the love that is never returned", WIlliam Somerset Maugham said once. Do you know what that means? If you asked me that a month ago I would have said no. Because back then, I had no idea how that felt to love and not be loved in return. But now, I do. I know exactly how it feels to be the only one in love with the other. And to tell you the truth, it hurts...so much. I can't bear it, no matter how hard I try to forget about her face. She still invades my dreams.

*DREAM*

I'm sitting on a bench in a park. The park where Beverly first found out what I was, where we shared our first kiss. I was looking at the swing set that has been there for a long time. It was swinging slightly from the wind, the trees making their regular singing in the breeze. I smelt a familiar human walking up behind me, she went around the bench, stopped to look at me for a second before sitting next to me.

"Wanna tell me why you're here?" she asked. I was silent for a moment.

"Just thinking."

"About what?" she asked.

"About my father." I answered. She placed her hand on mine to urge me on. "About how much it would mean to me to know who he was. When my mother died, I, I needed someone, and he wasn't there." I paused. "It was hard having a human mother, seeing her grow old, live her life the best she could. When I only could grow to be this age and then freeze. She was so happy when she died." I said.

"What do you mean?" she asked.

"She said something to me right before, she said, 'You will one day understand, what it's like to love someone so much, that anything they do wrong, won't matter.'" I explained. She grasped my hand.

"Do you know how that feels now?" she asked. I looked up at her face. The face that never ceases to amaze me at how beautiful it is. She never wore very much make up, but she doesn't need to, she is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. She was staring right at me, her face glowing with love. I leaned in and lightly pressed my lips to hers. The feeling was so powerful, I knew it was where I was meant to be. We both pulled away to look at each other. I nodded.

"Yes." she smiled.

"I love you, Chance. Forever." she whispered.

"I love you too." I replied back.

*DREAM END*

I opened my eyes, with the sight of a dark jungle, with the single glow of a fire still burning in the dead of night. I sat up, with my breathing heavy. That dream wasn't a dream, it was a memory. That did happen to me. But it was such a long time ago, I barely remember how it felt when things were simply Bev and I. Her face when she said she loved me was what I've been wanting to see since the whole trouble began. I really needed her. But I couldn't have her. She belonged to Lufian, her newest love. And it seems she is a royal now, with Lufian by her side, Malpirgi, Keanan, and Edric. My father. In that dream I was dying to know who my father was, now that I do, I don't think I can take it.

"Another dream about her?" Carmen asked. I turned to see her watching me. Carmen has been a vampire for a century exactly, she was a very mature vampire. She had dark brown hair, and her eyes went into a feline like shape, their color was a dark green ring with a lighter green in the center. She was a tanner skin tone, and her cheekbones were toned really well.

"Yeah." I answered. I've known Carmen since I entered the society with Ronin. Who of which hasn't yet told me how he is alive, or me for that matter. They all haven't answered my questions.

"I think it's best for you to move on as quickly as possible Chance. Otherwise she will haunt your subconscious forever." she suggested.

"It's not exactly easy." I responded.

"I know. She was one of those girls."

"One of those girls?" I asked.

"The ones who are too perfect. That once you fall for them, it's too late. And it will take every ounce of your being to let her go. But it's not impossible." she explained. I nodded.

"I lost her, to someone better."

"How do you know Lufian is better?" she asked.

"Is this a trick question?" I asked. She laughed.

"Maybe." she teased. "I haven't seen Beverly in a long time, I would have never thought she would become one of us."
