(Jake's P.O.V)
I pulled into Erica's driveway. Glancing down at the radio clock, I realized I was a bit early. I'd told her to be ready by 5:00. She didn't know where I'd be taking her, it was a surprise. After thinking about it all week, I chose to take her to the lake. The weather was perfect, and I couldn't keep myself from smiling when she walked out the door. God, she looked beautiful! Her hair was pulled back in a stylish pony, with her bangs swept to one side. She had blue earings on to match her dress. and what a dress! It completely transformed her. I walked out of my car and opened her door. What the hell? When was the last time I'd done that? She climbed in and smiled at me, we were more comfotable around each other now.
"I love your car, what kind is it?" She was looking around at the interior. I climbed in next to her and started the engine. No girl I'd ever dated had shown any "real" interest in my cars. The most they'd do is ask me to pull the top down so others could see them. But Erica's interest seemed genuine, and I couldn't help liking her a little more.
"It's a Nissan 350 Z, i got it for my birthday. I'm glad you like it." I answered.
Over the past week, I'd gotten to know her better. I learned her parents were going through a divorce, and it made us a little closer, since so were mine. I didn't tell her a lot about myself though, my home life was still too private to share. But slowly I'd opened up a bit as well. She lived with her mom and her dad was doing business in another country. He often called her and talked to her. She seemed closer to her dad. It made me think how different things could've been, if my father had actually cared for me.
"Thanks for picking me up, I hope were not going anywhere crowded though, I get uneasy and embarass myself.." She said it jokingly, but I could see the worry in her eyes.
"Don't worry about that, I'm taking you to a great place" I reassured her.
The drive lasted another half hour or so, and I looked her way every few seconds. I couldn't get over her smile, It drew me to her everytime. I'd been with many girls before, some too beautiful to imagine, but none had caught my attention quite this way. Deep down I knew we belonged together. When we reached the lake side, I parked under a tree. The lake was great, the sun was just setting, adding a sparkle to the water. I turned to see Erica's reaction and smiled.
"Oh My, I cant believe it! Jake, It....Its beautiful!" She looked sincere too. As if I'd given her a diamond necklace. Suddenly I remembered giving Victoria a small diamond pendant on her 16th birthday. It hadn't been much, but it was a diamond and had cost a year's allowance. I'd been so excited about givin' it to her. She'd looked at it and smiled, then told me all about the previous year when her "daddy" had givin' her a bracelet encrusted with diamonds. Then she'd bragged about how much it'd cost. Thinking of that now, I knew I never needed Victoria. She was a rich, spoiled girl, who didn't need him either. He felt stupid for even comparing Erica to her.
"I knew you'd like it, you seem like the kinda' girl who isn't into material things... so I thought the lake would be nice" I leaned in as I told her, and she was smiling ear to ear. She nodded enthusiastically. When she turned to look at me, I quickly kissed her. and it was like our first kiss all over again, I was back in heaven! She seemed eager too, and wrapped her arms around my neck. It felt so good to be in her arms, I actually felt wanted for the first time.
We setted up a small picnik by the lake. The sun did wonders to her hair. I could see streaks of gold and bronze in her otherwise dark brown hair. She looked so happy! We spent the day talking and sharing things we'd never really told anyone else. Like our favourite colour, song, and movie. Noone had ever wanted to know these things before, but with Erica it was always a surprise. I knew I'd always remember this day, no matter what happened.
She yawned and rubbed her eyes. She was clearly worn out and it was getting late. But I didn't want our day to end, so I spread out on the sheet and pulled her down with me. She gave a little shriek at first, but then snuggled closer. Ahhh... It felt so good! I wrapped one arm tightly around her. We both stared at the sky, getting darker as we watched.
Suddenly I felt my cell vibrate. I checked and saw it was Sarah. As much as I wanted to ignore it, I ended up answering.
