Ruby's Song
Chapter 5 I beat Russ again at racing. But I wasn't too happy about it. He barely spoke to me on the way back home, and I really didn't know what was up with him. It obviously had something to do with Jeremy because he was fine when he came over to me at the end of the day. He looked a little sad, but nothing compared to this. He hasn't spoken to me, and I don't think he's even trying to race me. I decided to stop and confront him; after all, I want to make friends with him. I don't want to fall out without even properly getting to know each other. "Hey Russ, what's up?" I panted, that run in Gym really tired me out. "What? Nothing." He murmured. This definitely wasn't like Russ I may have only known him a day, but through out that day, I realised that Russ had quite a loud personality, not that that's a bad thing. "You sure? Because you seem pretty quiet now" I asked concerned. "Yeah, I'm fine Ruby Honestly" he said, trying to force a smile onto his face. But even I could tell it was a fake one. Did Jeremy say something to him, or what? Because I'm worried about him. "Did Jeremy say something to you, or do something?" "No! I'm fine alright. It has nothing to do with your precious Jeremy!" He almost shouted. "All right. Sorry, I was just worried. Look I got to get home now. I'll see you in school, bye Russ. And by the way he isn't my Jeremy." I said. Why did he just shout at me, it can't have anything to do with me can it? I haven't done anything at all. "Wait Rubes..." he shouted across the street. I just carried on walking. If he's gonna be like that then, he can sort his problems out on his own. I was only trying to be friendly, and I get my head bitten off for it. All the next day, I barely spoke to Russ. I passed him in the corridor plenty of times, but I didn't speak to him. I still don't understand why he was so angry last night. From what I saw nothing happened. Jeremy came over yes, he was talking to me. Nothing wrong with that. He kissed my cheek. Well that was pretty weird, it could be classed as my first kiss. But I don't think cheek-kisses count. But I don't see why Russ would have a problem with that. I told him I would be careful and I am, and I'm not the same as Grace, he won't be able to change me, because I like who I am. My mum asked me last night how my day was. The conversation went... "Hey Hun, how was your first day. Tell me all about it! Did you make any friends, did you see any dashing guys?" she asked full on enthusiasm. "Mum, slow down. My day was alright. I guess it will take a few weeks to get used to it. Yeah I made a couple of friends. I met Jeremy from next door; he's my 'buddy'. The person chose to help me round the school, for my first few days. Also a boy called Russ, and a girl called Laura. They both seemed really nice." I didn't mention to my mum that me and Russ Probably weren't friends anymore after our minor tiff. I mean it wasn't that big at all, but because we weren't actually friends yet it might have larger effects. I'll just have to wait and see in school tomorrow. "That's great Hunny! I'm so happy that you're settling in alright now. I was so worried, but I'm ok now. We really are going to be fine." She said with the biggest smile on her face. She honestly was so happy because I had made more friends on the first day, than I had at home. I have got to stop calling it home! Canada is my home now, not London. "Yeah mum. Cool, I'm just going up to my room, to do my homework, then I might go for a nap or something" I said casually, heading towards the stair case. "Alright Hunny! Shout if you need anything to eat!" she shouted up to me as a reached the landing. That was yesterday, and now I'm sat in 5th period Algebra, next to Jeremy. We have spoken more today than yesterday. He asked me how my night was and I replied 'boring'. He didn't really talk about anything majorly interesting. Just sports really. He plays football I found out, and when I looked at him he had the build of a football player, all muscle and toned, but not too much, in fact I think he looks just right. And oh my god! I am staring at him again, and he's looking at me from the corner of his eye, with a smirk on his face! Oh no! He saw me staring at him I turned away and started my work with extra effort, to keep Jeremy from seeing my face, which had flushed deep read due to embarrassment. At the end of the lesson, I saw Russ talking to Laura closely, and then Laura looked over at me, but when she noticed me looking back, she smiled and gave a small wave. I mouthed the words 'bye' and headed out the classroom to the exit, along with my board. I was just about to set off, when my sight was lost. What the hell is happening? Then I realised it was someone's hands. I thought that Russ had done this before, so I immediately thought of him again.
